I am new-ish to FTB, and I would really like to know how to start a well-orginized world. I play Direwolf20 Pack.

I play Direwolf20 Pack.

Start off pretending that it is vanilla MineCraft until you get yourself some diamonds. After that, you'll want to start branching into either the IC2/GregTech tech tree, or the TE tech tree.

Or, if you really aren't sure, go look up DireWolf20's Let's Play and get tips from what he does. Learn from his mistakes, too!

But, Gus, what if he loses his creativity and doesn't know how to not do what DW20 does?! You'll have to release him from that obligation.

Akeldama, what are you looking to do? Trying to tech up? Sample all the mods, be the most powerful, what? Give us an idea and we'll point you in the right direction.

TE doesn't require diamonds to get going, all you need are the basics and gold/redstone.

No worries, I can always add him to the list, heheh.

Indeed, it does not. Although TE, from what I've seen running through it, is a bit more complicated to dig into at the start. Enough so that it'd likely be better for someone to either watch a Let's Play to get the idea, or to go to IC2.

Yea sometimes it's hard to get your pulv to spit obby to your furn.. eugh.

TE is fairly straightforward IF you've got a good understanding of sided inventories. Otherwise, you'll end up like that guy. IC is by far the easiest to get started with coming straight from vanilla, both in the processing machines and the power grid.

I suggest playing with a keyboard and mouse... maybe even a computer.

ok ok... Like others I would suggest starting out normal. Check NEI it is the best tool for how to do most of the new stuff. And always there is Youtube with its huge number of helpful videos.

As others have said, start by punching trees. It's not a race. Take your time, do the vanilla thing and slowly introduce things as you need them.
A good start is always any set of machines that double your ores. Industrial craft or theraml expansion are great for this and easy'ish to get into.

The advice to go to youtube and start watching Direwolf20's singleplayer season 5 is good advice because he starts of at a steady pace and at the begining everything he does will take you on a well explained journey into the mods.

Just be advised he sometimes gets caught up in the moment and can be holding a pipe in his hand while calling it something else entirely hehe.
We love him for it though.

ugh... another one...

how about you read some of the hundreds of other 'tell me what to do because I have no imagination or initiative' threads and read the replies to those.

No one forces you to read / reply or backseat moderate. You could just ignore without feeling a need to give your opinion on everything.
