You know what? You're right. I'm just in a bad mood about my crappy FPS. Now if someone could answer that question of mine above that would be great.

I think that with all the FPS advice you already got.. if it's still not working.. :(
Maybe move some stuff away to a distant base? like the processing and such, using tesseracts to get it to your main base

Yes, I know I need a better computer. But it'll be a while before I get one so... any more tips?

What have you done, OP? Did you turn off or turn down all graphics as much as possible? "Particle effect" is one thing I'm thinking of, but unfortunately I built my own supercomputer and thus I run everything at maximum so I'm not really well-versed on how to "turn things down" (or off).

Here's another "off topic" base story, but it's not a bad pun... I am currently playing Monster pack, and every time I fly somewhere and then fly back to my base (I use the MPS powersuit), Minecraft will freeze for a short bit. It will just "hang", the sounds are running but the graphics comes to a complete halt for about 5 seconds. Then, it clears up, and I can move again.

This happens EVERY time I leave the area of my base, and then return to the area. When I return, the whole game freezes for 5 seconds (can't even move my mouse cursor) then it is fine.

Pretty weird problem, and very annoying, like any FPS problem is annoying. I sympathize.

Yes, I've done all the stuff in the graphics options pane.

May or may not apply, but I was playing World of Tanks last night and I saw a little notification that said "Warning - running game in non-full-screen mode may result in reduced performance". So I guess I'd ask you - are you running the game full screen, or in a window? At least in WoT, running in a window is less optimal than running in full screen mode. I don't know it that also holds true with Minecraft however. Just throwing it out there, maybe someone else can chime in.

Running full screen usually improves performance for me, but it may just be a coincidence

I'll post this FPS issue on a new thread so more people who know how to fix that kind of problem will actually post there.

OK, so I've got that window open, now what?

Click "Run Test", wait for it to finish, and check the various tabs provided. They will show what entities are taking the most resources, as well as where they are.

OK, so I think the lag is caused by that goddamn huge ReactorCraft Fusion Reactor I'm building. The whole TileEntity slot is spammed by stuff from ReactorCraft. Also, how do I check which mods are causing the lag?

Opis.
And. Run a server rather than SSP if you are using reactorcraft. That puts the minecraft server onto a different process and therefore thread so that the client can render independently of tile entity processing and maintain a high FPS and mouse responsiveness - the tile entity processing will manifest as block lag (and the monster AI taking a while to notice you) but no more so than you get with low fps.

Yes, I am already using Opis, but what function is it in Opis that tells me which mod causes the lag?

There is a wiki: Opis Wiki that goes into detail.

What I do is:

execute from the server or an Opped players console:

/opis_start

which causes it to collect tile entity data. (It will automatically stop after collecting enough data points).

and then open the mapwriter view, and scroll the mouse wheel over the far right option to change the overlay mode to chunk update times. It will then (as per the wiki) overlay the offending chunks with red boxes indicating which ones have badly behaving tile entities and show a list of the worst offenders. Clicking on the chunks selects them and lets you choose/see which items are causing the lag.

There is now - apparently - a /opis command that will some some other new UI of awesomeness.

Oh. So that's what the boxes on the map were! And anyways, after I changed to -Xms 2.5G -Xmx 4G, my game became laggier. But changing it to 3G actually helped.

I can't help but wonder why all this lag talk is not in it's own thread, where you might get more help in the support forum. This thread is to see tall bases (or short ones I guess).

Just sayin'...:p

I managed to get the whole lag thing fixed now, so we should continue talking about what this topic was originally about.

It might not be on topic for this thread. But i am nonetheless interested in what was causing the lag...
