What is your main source of power?

  • Lava (in any form of generator)

  • Solar

  • Coal (mined)

  • Tree farm based

  • Other farm based

  • Big reactors (mod in general)

  • Oil/fuel

  • Other

Must be missing something, why do you need sand to turn yellorium into cyanite when you can just as easily put the yellorium in the reactor and collect the waste product?

It takes a long while to get enough if you wanna build big ass turbines
This.

This is my current issue at the moment - I've gone and build a rather efficient passive reactor, which is making turning it into an active reactor a rather slower business than I would have liked. I think I'm going to have to go with a series of microreactors (the 3x3x3 minimum size ones) to generate enough cyanite to make the most of my good reactor before the pack (AgSkies) disappears off the FTB Launcher...!

The small one I had in Monster was 5x5x7, and at 1800RPM it was generating 1500 RF/t. Of course I could have done more with more turbine blades and a bigger turbine, but I never got to it. Was just getting the point where I needed it when the world died.

I always start with a 3x3x4 Big Reactor (ASAP, on day one if possible!), the 4 tall to give a bit more power but more importantly, it allows me to install two Rednet Ports and connect them with Rednet Cable and use that to keep my reactor power level constant (so I never have to babysit it to conserve fuel). I think it only puts out 200-300 RF/t, but that's plenty for me during early game since I also will build some Redstone Energy Cells or Ender IO Capacitors to give me a bit of power buffer. So while I'm in early game building all my machines, the reactor is making Cyanite ingots for me, and by the time I get to the point where my little 3x3x4 is not putting out enough power, I generally have enough Cyanite to get started on building turbines. I've never had to sit around waiting for Cyanite ingots using this strategy.

For mid-end game, I have 2 max-sized Turbines running (16x9x9 outside dimensions) and both are powered by a Active Reactor sandwiched between the two Turbines (3x9x7 outside dimensions, 4 fuel rod columns with gelid cryo between, and I think I have the control rods set at 15% or 20% each). This puts out just shy of 50K RF/t with both turbines running at 1796 RPM. I also made 11 stacks of Vibrant Capacitors (17.6 billion RF total storage) just in case I ever worry about running low on power. :D

Actually, correction - the main reason for all the Capacitors is because I can run my base entirely off of them for days (weeks) at a time, and shut my reactor/turbines down to conserve fuel. Hard to waste fuel when you're not even using any! :) Fuel conservation is really not an issue if you run a max-speed Ender Quarry using the Turbine power but it's still a good idea not to waste materials if you don't have to.

Heh, the question was "how do you generate power?" and not "how many generators did you spam?" or "how large of a reactor did you build?" or "how many years will your power storage suffice?" :p

Okay so maybe I got carried away a bit. Isn't that what we Minecrafters do, after all? :D

Yeah, unless you want to make a breeder reactor (aka a horribly inefficient design that eats yellorium like candy) using the yellorium+sand=cyanite recipe is your best bet.
Depending on your modpack you can get cyanite as a byproduct.

I built an entire max-sized turbine once just by running a few stacks of yellorite ore through a SAG mill with dark steel grinding balls (they provide a bonus multiplier on byproducts)

for me i use extra utilitys lava generators since they are upgradable till lava can't be supplied fast enough for them. i then make a 7x7x7 big reactors and move on from there

Alas I've discovered that on Agrarian Skies, there doesn't appear to be any other way of getting cyanite than reactor burning. Cue 2 more mini-reactors and a bit of patience and I'm getting there, slowly but surely ;p

For small and localised power, I found that culinary generators were actually pretty handy - I always had good food on me anyway (fancy pizzas and such), so for the odd low-power application those did me fine!

If you have MFR you can use the Sewer on a group of animals, Composter to make Industrial Fertilizer, which can be crafted 1:1 into the Forestry variant.

Saltpeter only spawn(supposed to) in deserts.
You can get INFINITE amounts of saltpeter with pulverizing sandstone. Which crafted from sand which comes from cobble which is endless.
