What is your main source of power?

  • Lava (in any form of generator)

  • Solar

  • Coal (mined)

  • Tree farm based

  • Other farm based

  • Big reactors (mod in general)

  • Oil/fuel

  • Other

Normally, I generate most of my power by simply pumping tons of lava from the nether into magmatic dynamos (or something similar), but I want try something different, since pumping lava from the nether seems a bit cheaty to me. Feel free to post suggestions or showcase your power generation (photos optional), as I'd like to see what others do, to get some fresh ideas.
Thanks!

***Note: I am aware that similar threads exist, but I haven't found any with recent posts, and most power generation ideas I see are MC 1.6.4 and earlier.***

On my current playthrough, general base power is coming from Rotarycraft performance engines running power into a series of rotational dynamos to generate RF.

Ethanol coming from an automated sugar cane plantation and my magical crops farm growing blaze plants.

Currently working on automating my jet fuel production so I can run the microturbines and pulse jet furnace i'm going to need to get started on my planned Reactorcraft fission reactor.

Other power supplies just can't compare.

The last time I really went for the techy stuff was in Infinity.
I automated Nether stars and pumped them into Nether star generators from XU. Each gen does 10k rf/t :D

How on earth did you automate nether starts?!? You can do that?!?
Yes, Direwolf20 did that in his Let's Play :D
You can spawn the Wither with e.g. formation planes and let him drop down into a protected room where he gets killed by some remote method.

I usually use lava in the beginning. As soon as i have enough materials, i build a Bigreactor. I also use EU-Producing Solar panels (either for the EU or transformed to RF via Mekanism)

On my last playthrough with Reika's mods I used Hydrokinetic Engines into a Rotational Dynamo for RF.
Since then, the J -> RF ratio has been buffed significantly while the Hydrokinetics got nerfed. I guess a few Gasoline Engines will cut it early game this time.

I use a modified Infinity pack, where I ripped out a dozen mods and added nothing. I basically went from a TC smeltery directly into a big reactor and have expanded it as needed.

I'm planning on setting up and autocrafting system for the RF solar panels. Just to do it.

Earlier I always went for Big Reactors, but now I usually go for multiple smaller power sources, with different fuels. It's more fun that way :).

I start out with charcoal, and quickly move onto big reactors.
I also sometimes use lava in small setups that needs to be moved often

RF Solar Panels? Which mod?

To the OP: I use Big Reactors a lot. Just the smallest possible reactor runs for a long time with low maintenance and fuel usage. If you feel like being interesting, though, oil rigs are always a lot of fun. :p

I tend to mix my power up, tending to use a different primary power source each playthrough.

On infinity, I'm currently using Culinary generators with Toast. A 64x culinary on toast is just under 3k rf/t. Actually considering changing to honeyed slices from forestry, if we get enough excess honey drops.

I get the most power from my fairly big ReactorCraft reactor, which has 32 cores I believe, but I find that I often have no need for that giant amount of power all of the time. I don't leave my bigger power draws on 24/7 because I simply have no reason to plus I'd run out of stuff quickly. I only ever turn on my steam turbines from the reactor when I need to use a ton of power for extractors/grinders/electrolizers/whatnot.

Other than my ReC reactor, I got a fairly standard big reactor covering all the costs of maintaining all the automation and EIO/TE/Mek machines in my base... at a surplus of power too. Yellorium production is automated so this will theoretically never ever shut off unless my automation breaks and I don't notice for the 16k yellorium ingots I have in my ME system. In addition, I have a row of 8 gas turbine from RoC (jet fuel is also automated). I really just built it for the fun of hearing multiple turbines spin up, but this can supply me with enough power to run all of my bigger power draws in the event that I don't want ReC scale of power, but need more than my Big Reactor can give me. I also have some EU furnace generators attempting to use my massive surplus of coal, but I generate coal at much faster rates than I use it.

I also have more eco-friendly ways of obtaining power. Granted I get the least out of these, the benefit of having passive power is too good to pass on in the case that something else fails (which honestly is impossible but I'm way too cautious anyway). I got 5 Mek wind turbines at max elevation generating a pretty decent amount of RF and I got 20 64Rf/t solar panels from SolarFlux in a RFTools dimension that has no weather and is always daytime.

And if that wasn't enough, I plan on creating 2 more reactors for ReactorCraft, one of which will be a fusion reactor.

I usually start with an ae2 grinder and vanilla furnace until I get enough mats for a 3x3x4 big reactor.
Run that until I have enough to make a full 7x7x7 5 rod cryotheum cooled br.

This time around, infinity pack, I am planning on building the draconic evolution rf storage ball and Pumping in 3-4 top tier solar, 3 are 100k/t.
