hello fellow FTBers,
I just started on a new server and wanted to make an automatic tree farm.
I was just wondering how everyone else goes about doing it and how you feel about the various methods there are

I chop them down. Without using lupus, it's never lupus.

Though my personal favourite is the RP2 Frame/Deployer/Block Breaker contraption.

I use a filler on a 2x2 fir tree. I have the filler on a timer so that it will reset after 3 minutes giving the sapplings enough time to fall and be collected and for a new tree to grow (via bonemeal in a deployer).

Currently I don't have a need for automated wood production so I just plant some Redwoods and have a Wood Golem with a chest nearby. I use an Axe of the Stream with Repair on it and chop them down when I need wood and my little logging buddy picks up the saplings. A nice low tech solution for mid game until you get something more complex set up. Now if only I could teach the golem to wield an axe... <ponders>

Steve carts normally for me. However, I have yet to set one up in my latest world so I'm having fun using my advanced jetpack and advanced chainsaw. :):eek::Do_O:cool:

Well, my SC farm is for fuel, so my one for wood is a home-made turtle program.

Axe of the stream in a jungle. Hint: connect a few trees with lines of wood blocks, and just hold right-click. I also sometimes farm the giant trees in TF.

You know what you need to get rid of those awkward timers and wire? Immibis's Infinitubes. They are amazing for that sort of work. You can even do regulator-like stuff; but remotely. Add the mod today!

Also, how do you actually get the top of the trees? Did you change the MFR config to go up higher or is there another hidden tesseract-powered harvester up top?

Yeah, I'm just more familiar with timers and wires and shit, but I shall look into that.

And yeah, I adjusted the config to accommodate the larger trees.

The Immibis stuff works off a push mentality with no drops. So what you do is have a HUGE buffer chest of fertilizer with an autarchic void pipe to stop overflows (or just have a second teleposer output to a lava block with a lower priority) and then ou can emit all your fertilizer onto the network at infinite speeds with no spills ever. It's like rp2 regulators without the bugs.

I still can't get the MFR harvester to not get stuck when it harvests the bottom log of a tree as soon as the tree has grown.

This drives me nuts too, but I've only seen it happening with Spruce trees.. no problem with Birch or Oak.
