Hello guys,
Somewhat sort of quick questions, just for inspiration and that magical element called fun.
How do you build your bases? If you have something like BiomesXL/O plenty enabled, where do you build them? Why do you build them there? Is the environment beautiful or beneficial to you? What materials?
Do you have a control terminal? Floating base, underground base or land base? Large or small base?
Farms, machines and utilities?
Add your own questions and answers, reply honestly, ex. "I have 70 nukes and counting, my base is a floating ice cream made out of wool!".

Well, thanks for reading,
RealSketch

Chose other, since I've done all but the sky base.

I like underground the most except for the issue with getting out quickly. Elevators are an option but I usually just settle for some ladders until I move above ground.

I personally have a strong preference for building into a the side of a small mountain. Much easier to mine/dig out the floors I need and I really like the look as my base slowly erupts and then eventually the mountain disappears entirely.

I build inside Natura Redwood Trees, with underground rooms beneath root depth for things like the Smeltery, machine and magic rooms (not a good idea to build heat sources in a wooden floor, you know). I also usually have a room dedicated to ore-berries as well. I build the underground rooms in all 4 directions unless I'm too near deep water.

Usually build above ground on some spectacular landscape that I come across. Have been places like on a hillside of a jungle, on a large cliff overlooking the ocean on several sides, in the top of a mountain, in the crown of a giant redwood. So usually its the landscape that decides partly.

On one occasion I did build a large floating city over a desert, which I manually terraformed into a large walled oasis. When Monster is final I will do something similar again, so voted "sky".

I go with what ever speaks to me. I will know it when I see it. I make a temp base and scout the area for a little ways till some feature or something jumps out at me and the wheels begin spinning. Other times I have gone looking for real estate that matches something I want to do. Typically though, I try to stay above ground, though inevitably I make a basement...then a sub basement...maybe one more level. Or have sprawling viet cong tunnel networks connecting all my buildings. Never done a sky base though.

Typically I build a few layers into the earth, this ends up housing automated machines which require zero human intervention. Then I slowly build into the sky, usually reaching about 140 blocks about the ground. Lately I have been making this building at least 1 or 2 chunks in interior space. I have a bee "room" that houses all my automated alvearies and apiaries, no actual machines inside, this bee room is usually 3 or 9 chunks but only 10 to 30 blocks tall.

My actual living area is actually constantly moving because I run around with all the tools needed to remotely manage my base and items. Wireless Remote, Remote Orderer, Ender Pouches, Terminal Glasses, etc. To top it all off, I am working on a Redstone in Motion platform so I can I can move all my AE storage and controls around on a whim. For added complexity I might build a larger RiM drilling rig which clears a path for the mobile base if needed. Never know if some pesky neighbor built his underground base in the way of mobile base.

I build them wherever I feel like, usually flatish, but this time around I decided to go for an in-mountain base. And next world I'll be living on the side of a mountain, but generally it's flat for the sake of having a nice place to build without having to terraform.

I prefer beautiful over beneficial, if I need something I don't mind traveling 3000m to get it, especially if it's in an ugly biome.

Generally I build mostly from wood for my main house, usually some Railcraft Quarried and Abyssal stone thrown in. And for my factory probably some bricks, and a smooth light floor. Though, my current world is mostly wood and stone bricks, because we don't have Railcraft in the modpack. Next world will probably be project red lights, quarried stone, abyssal, basalt, and marble.

I usually build as large as it needs to be, without being overly gigantic. I'm not a big fan of underground bases typically. I just hate having to dig everything out, and use like a billion picks and shovels to do it. I've never actually tried a proper floating base for more than 30 minutes.

I try to put my farms as far away as possible, because the MFR harvesters are REALLY annoying. Machines usually go in the main house for general use, and then in a big automation room for, well, automation. Utilities go as I see fit.

I tend to wander around looking for an area without many trees.
I'll then end up walling off around a chunks worth of land.
I like to then build a tower within the safety of my walls constantly building up as I need more rooms and building platforms that jutt outwards for tree farms and the such.
Above ground is only lit up within my walls, and I try to light up every sq/in of cave I come across. Often this leaves hordes of mobs around my walls at night, which gives me a few fun things to do for mob defense. Electric fence/moat/quick sand etc.

I have been on a skybase kick for a little while now. I generally build interconnected hexagon platforms up at whatever height feels right. The hexes generally get their own purpose like machines, gardens, bees, etc. As for where I build, I generally try to stay around spawn for the free semi chunkloading and ease of access, although I think next world will be desert based. My favorite vanilla builds have been in deserts and the TC4 silverwood biome changing mechanic thingimabob will allow me to build an actual oasis.

I generally do above-ground bases with underground rooms for automated machinery. I like to be near (but not in) Extreme Hills or the like. I avoid jungles, but I like the basic forests with smaller trees and little to no undergrowth. My favourite bases are on small islands (1-2 chunks, or close to it), where I can just slap a 2-high wall around the island & light it up while I get started with digging down.
