Hmm, activated Soartex texturepack, increased FPS a ton

Seriously? I mean.. This is extremely strange...

Yep. I also monitored CPU and RAM usage pretty closely during the bit I played yesterday. Without Soartex, I was at about 85% RAM usage, and a constant 18% CPU usage. With it, however, I was at 85% RAM, alongside fluctuations between 18-45% CPU usage.

@Reika Im sorry to ask you something that isn't related to your mods, but you are the only modder that is active here and may know what happens.. so.. Wtf? xD Any idea why a x64 texture pack gives better fps?
Umm, exactly what b0bst3r said xD
Animations are really laggy, like, REALLY laggy.
Things like water animations can really decrease your FPS.
Soartex may just remove, or reduce the amount of times animations happen, reducing the FPS loss...

Well, the animation stuff is there.. But what about resolution? Animations are that heavy on the gpu that going from 16x to 64x is actually a good thing? That feels kind of wrong.. for 100 blocks with animations, making thousands into 64x can't be that good :/ And if it is, then we found a way to make monster not that much of resource intensive.. which is awesome.

I wouldn't go that far. While my average FPS jumped by about 20, I had an increase in average CPU usage and more drops below 30 FPS than before.

I remember back in 1.4.7 there was one texture in thaumcraft that caused all sorts of weirdness when optifine was installed. Only by locating the file referenced in the error report was I able to fix it myself by resizing it. I know I cant be the only one who could use a few extra FPS, and I bet the extra CPU usage Padfoote reported is only due to the large texture sizes. But somewhere deep inside the bowels of the pack, someone accidentally fixed a problem. Now we have to figure out what it was!

I suppose that Monster, being as huge as it is, may have a bit more than just one texture that is causing problems :p For example, there is a problem with random things and rotary craft because of random things changing the texture of the redstone block, which caused a crap ton of lag.. I disabled it and it got fixed, but it is coded in the mod that the texture goes into different colours, so a texture pack wouldn't fix that.. And im pretty sure there must be more interactions like that.. But also im sure that they will get fixed eventually :D

Hey all!

I can see that people are having mixed changes with using our pack, as in what our packs add its yes the x64 textures but the animations we are are not intensive for the game to render and for the pre-loading. We also remove a few which are not needed, thus making the game to less with the pack. This is Vanilla though, regarding the modded side we heavily remove animations from some mods which we feel don't work or are not needed or we use a 4 tile animation for some liquids/blocks so it still has the effect but the game does not have to do much. Also with our modded support we work hard to make the textures look good for the Fanver feel but at the same time to not make the game have to work harder, in some cases this can't be done but this is one key aspect we focus on when making new modded support and the updating of the Vanilla pack.

I think that the FPS boost from Fanver is the decreased amount of animations we have in the pack, but the transparency and other texture tweaks we do the textures allowing the game to do less with rendering objects. Fanver does increase the RAM usage and CPU usage but you would normally find this with resource packs the higher you get in the resolution, this is why we stick to x64 as it suits "most" computers and allows people to still have the playable FPS but have some awesome textures. Going onto Optifine the Fanver Vanilla base is optimised for that product so people can enjoy the connected textures / random mobs etc.. So we do perform a lot of in house testing to make sure that we don't hit the FPS caps we have set ourselves. But we don't necessarily recommend using Optifine in some modded packs due to some incompatibilities but we don't force that to our users.

Regarding the Monster Pack from our in house testing there is a marginal FPS boost with using our pack but at the increase of the games work load, so the higher RAM/CPU load. But thats from our testing and from a few machines we have to test on.

So wrapping up in this I do believe that textures pack do improve the FPS for many variants of reasons from the removal of animations and texture tweaks from the packs and mainly the resolution you're playing on, but using some packs would increase the games "work load" but won't necessarily affect the FPS in game.

Any questions with what I have said just hit me up with them ;)
