Hmm, activated Soartex texturepack, increased FPS a ton

Title says it all. Test it out. I was running Optifine before, but after I installed Soartex, my FPS soared to beautiful levels.

In that case I'd love to see what your FPS would be without either. All Soartex does (that I know about) is add the textures...no performance tweaks...so it's weird indeed unless Optifine was actually slowing you down rather than speeding you up.

1. The swearing...:(
2. What type are you using; 32x, 64x, 128x etc.
3. What do you expect, it's texture/resource pack, don't use it if you don't like it.

I think you misunderstood his post...he's saying it made his FPS better...

and what swearing? lol
Sorry, I was distracted from reading by the data the title contained; it isn't the nicest of language.
And may I ask what the point of this thread is, I can understand you'd like to share your findings, but, seems a little vague...

ah, gotcha...i didn't pay much attention to the title so didn't notice it :).

And the point of the thread was pretty clear, he got an FPS gain by installing Soartex instead of Optifine..which you would normally expect the opposite of. So he was letting people know to test it out. :)

Well, now that i think of it, if he took optifine out then thats why his fps went up.. Optifine and forge have kind of a harsh relationship..

Well, I still have Optifine installed. It is required for some of the connected textures in Soartex. I still don't know what is glass and what is hole though...........

But for some reason my FPS jumped to levels that I consider to be optimal. Perhaps Soartex has some optimization in terms of texture loading, that allow for Optifine to perform better?

Just checked.. My monster instance ( A bit modified ) behaves the same with soartex installed, no optifine though.. MAYBE a little better, but i tested in another instance without my world so i dont know, ill try later when i get home in my world

Could be that it replaces a faulty texture somewhere in a mod? Ive always thought texture packs affect the initial load times, not so much FPS.

Hmmm, well that could be the case, but perhaps vanilla MC isn't optimized for connected textures like Soartex is. It could be a variety of things, but all I'm saying is that I did have an FPS gain.

That would be the case in a native resolution pack, but with a 64x texture pack instead of the native 16x, there is much more stress put into the GPU.

I didn't believe it so I tested it myself. Using a modified Monster pack, I had around 100 FPS standing still, 80 moving, no texture pack. Installed Soartex, 130 FPS standing still, about 100 moving. All of this without Optifine ever being installed.

Seriously? I mean.. This is extremely strange...

@Reika Im sorry to ask you something that isn't related to your mods, but you are the only modder that is active here and may know what happens.. so.. Wtf? xD Any idea why a x64 texture pack gives better fps?
