im fairly good with most mods but i havent a clue about ae so what do i need for the most basic of ae storage systems

Most basic AE system is:
1) ME controller
2) ME drive
3) ME Access terminal

Drive should have some storage disks in it, and controller should be fed by some mj/eu
Oh, and BTW, all the things must sit next to each other or must be connected via ME cable

Do yourself a favor and watch direwolf20's spotlight for AE on youtube.

That should give you an idea of what you can do and where you should start.

Man I was sad that I was not going to use Logistic pipes in my current play... using Ultimate...And now I seen this mod... What a great mod.. Can't wait to get it going in my world..

Yeah I love this mod. After you watch Dire's spotlight you should go into creative mode to practice setting up an AE network.

The cool thing about AE is that there's so little that you can do wrong and when things go wrong it's because you did something stupid like preformating all your drives to cobble stone. or loaded your entire network with cobblestone.
the blocks can be picked up with a pickaxe, dont create a large mess of drops on the ground like destroying a normal full chest would

You can put all your stuff into your network, and then accidently destroy your power source ^_^'

- I have a lot of stuff! Umm... But I can't get it.

I repeat my self: and when things go wrong it's because you did something stupid :P

If you keep a charged redstone energy cell nearby, that's not really an issue.

I keep forgetting that, because my ME system runs off eu. I've had power outs twice that have left me unable to access stuff... and I've had a redstone cell in my inventory both times and not used it heh.

Another good option is to have an ME chest stored away outside of the system, or deployed near a energy cable. if you end up in a emergicy and have FUBAR'ed you energy system delivering power to the network you can plop down the chest to a low energy source and starting putting in storage drives till you find the one with the repair supplies you need. (bonus here if you've labeled and preformeted your drives)
if you destroy your entire power network to the point where you cant get enough power to keep an ME chest running for a few minutes, you deserve to start over :P

Meh power is easy to maintain a backup, either use a solar as backup to a small batbox or use a redstone energy cell as backup with the output set to 0. If you're going to use AE like I do for everything you plan for these things.

Yeah. I'm not saying that it's hard to fix, but broken barrel/broken chest is fixable too ^_~
And I have to say, that all this stuff is an additional "cost" for AE. I mean, some people call AE overpowered as EE or something like that... I disagree, because constant power requirement is a good cost, and a risk to lose access to all the items makes it balanced enough, even though that risk is very small. BTW, it also quite hungry for quartz...

Yeah it's nicely balanced but the major thing I don't like is it has no protection again someone just running in and pinching all your stuff (through the many interfaces). Once Algorithm implements a security feature (which is on the to do list) it will be better. Even a warded room isn't safe since the Cloak of Distortion can get through it with a bit of exact aiming.

Well, chests have the same issue ^_^
I'm not a security person, since I don't play on servers. I see the other problem: no option like "keep this inventory stocked with k items". And it can't use its autocrafter to automatically craft stuff if all the items are availbale (this might be useful for autocompressing items to storage blocks, for example)

The keep this inv stocked with x items is the most asked for feature and on the to do list.
