Have I been screwed?

I am at a loss here. ive got the research notes for thaumium wand caps. but i cant complete it. ive got six runes to connect four dots. sounds easy but its not. ive got the right aspects picked out but only got two runes for each aspect. connecting the first three runes requires four of the six runes. the last dot is so far away that you would need three runes.

honestly i am really close to just enabling the cheat book in the config but i dont want to though. is it possible to get a different set of notes with a different set of dots to connect?

you could try removing the notes and trying it again because all the researches are randomised each with a unique difficulty to them. You could also try different aspects for it to see if there is any others that you could use to help you out.

I've had a couple of ones like that. Just put that one away or trash it and try a different one. Some of the research notes are unsolvable.

what I did was use the cheatsheet from Succubism to find all the aspects. I'd then activate all the aspects once and take a screenshot from it and put that screenshot in paint.
after that I'd clear away any runes that are in the way, and then I'd start moving the aspect runes. because you know from the screenshot which runes were the aspect ones you can move them around without worrying that you forget which ones were the aspect runes. when all is in the right place, I re-activate them and see what happens.

it does happen from time to time that a research is unsolvable. try to find this out at the beginning as it can save you on resources and aspect points.
it's also a wise idea if you get a hard research to try and get several research papers for them, and try to find the best one that the most easy to solve

A lot of research pages are physically impossible to complete. Scrap it and try again if this is the case until you find an easier one.

I think I screwed Myself, when I made a couple of research notes from Fragments found in chests in dungeons.
Blew it all out of whack!

agreed. lost research should be changed as what currently is lost research isn't really worth researching...
with that I'd also like if the villager problem with TC4 is solved, as right now I can't seem to breed any new Thaumcraft Villagers
so for now I just went to the Twilight Forest, found myself an Enchanted Forest near my portal, and killed hundreds of pechs to get my knowledge fragments.

Well short term, yes.
But you'd have to keep trading with them to get more shit, and given you're playing FTB/ResiRise, I doubt you'd be in a state after early-game where gold is any sort of issue.
It'd be worth more to keep them around and exploit them for beans, shards and other magic stuff.

I wish I had read this piece of advice a few weeks ago. I spent an hour and 100+ research points trying to cram 15 symbols into a space meant for maybe 6 or 7.

I will now be much less hesitant to scrap and start over.

It'd be worth more to keep them around and exploit them for beans, shards and other magic stuff.

And thank goodness silver igots have the lucrum aspect now.

i did end up finding notes for thaumium caps that were solvable. that is one thing that bugs me about thaumcraft, unsolvable notes.

I believe the code uses a method in it's algorithm to separate notes based on the number of runes needed to link them. Sometimes though, the algorithm doesn't take into account the number of runes you actually can activate.

actually, if you happen to find an Enchanted Forest in the Twilight Forest, there's hundreds of pechs running around. you can go to 1 part of the forest, kill all the pechs, then move onto the other part, kill all the pechs, and by the time you're moving back to the first spot new pechs will already spawn. also pechs sometimes drop more then just beans. they can also drop equipment and armor, heck, I was swinging around with a cleaver with full looting and I've gotten about a dozen iron capped wands with the pech focus on it

Well dang, we might as well just spawn in their drops then if we're not gonna follow the intended purposes. It's not like it's cost heavy.

You can also make sure Pechs don't despawn by slapping a name tag into them. You can't change their names though.

Or you could use a Cryogenic Orb from Thaumic Tinkerer if you can't be bothered to go treasure hunting.
