Yes I know FTB Ultimate will 99.99% not make a comeback but what if it does? I mean it was a great modpack and the first one i ever played that worked. It is also what taught me pretty much everything I know about mods. So I think there should be like a FTB Ultimate 2 modpack with all the mods the older version had but up to date and in 1.7.10 (or as high as it can get). Also just replace redpower with project: red, I mean who uses redpower? It's basically saying "Hi, I'm a old mod no one uses and will never make a comeback!". ALSO ABSOLUTELY NO GREGTECH. That mod ruined my experience.

1. Quite a few of the mods in Ultimate are not yet or will not be updated, and quite a few are drastically different than their old counterparts, making it hard to update.
2. GregTech was one of the features of Ultimate. Saying you want a clone of Ultimate and then that you don't want a mod from Ultimate in the clone isn't going to help.

What do I need another "Everything including the Kitchen sink" pack for these days? After a year with modded MC I still haven't learned a whole lot of mod details, and I can always use DW20's pack and Let's Plays when needed.

I prefer the new direction FTB is taking, with separate packs focused on a smaller subset of mods... The mods should be easier to learn with fewer of them to worry about and HQM can be used as a textbook to teach mod techniques if done properly. I can play multiple packs that catch my interest, as I don't get hung up on deleting a world to start again. After I learn enough about the various mods I'd rather build my own packs anyway.

Well, I'd be very happy with a re-released FTB Ultimate without XYCraft.

Seriously, why the heck was that mod ever included? It does pretty much nothing but clutter the world with memory-hogging, useless Quartz Crystals and semi-pretty, but totally useless Xychorium. If I ever re-install Ultimate, removing XYCraft from it is the first thing I'll do.

I thought the growth blocks from xycraft were cool, the more you stacked them, the quicker crops grew....

Xycraft added a ton of cool stuff, like Growth blocks or XyWater. And ultimate is an "ALL THE THINGS" pack so we will not get it.

MC 1.7 removed explicit IDs. So, no more ID musical chairs. This makes throwing a bunch of mod together rather simple:

1. Download mods
2. Move to mods folder
3. Run game

Throwing a bunch of random mods together no longer passes muster for a 'pack', but if you want to try and re-create your version of Ultimate, there's nothing stopping you.

Heck, I'm not sure Ultimate would pass for a proper 'pack' these days. I think people are looking at the past with rose-colored glasses.

I would like to see Greg tech return to FTB packs. IMO ultimate was the best pack for its time. Still to this day its one of the best. With only 93 mods or so it was a pack that had a long life. I spent more time playing ultimate then and other pack combined,

To the OP, Direwolf packs are like ultimate minus the GT but imo GT adds so much to a pack

Pretty much all of the same mods from ultimate still exist today. I really dont see what exactly gives Ultimate any sort of personality other than the presence of Gregtech. Its just a collection of all of the most obvious mods and absolutely zero of the less obvious ones. Pretty much like all of the FTB packs. My personal 1.4.7 pack had everything Ultimate had, and then some. (Except gregtech) The only thing I miss about it is the Xycraft fabricator, Optifine and my customized John Smith texture pack.

it was the way it played, Greg tech is the reason. for instance in order to make a buildcraft quarry you needed to do Railcraft, IC2, Thermal expansion and GT, The pack had a sense of balance and longevity. Packs today have twice the mods but half the playtime.

That's not how it has been for me at all. I have spent more time on magic world 2 then I ever did on packs that had GT in it. o_O

Agreed for the mainstream "all the things" packs.

Completely disagree for the 3rd-party packs. Most 3rd-party packs intentionally extend gameplay. Examples include MF2, AgS, Crash Landing, InfiTech2, etc.,.

And, they do it with less mods than a "all the things" pack.
