Amusingly, you can do a vanilla loader/unloader with gravity tracks. Use a comparator on the hopper dispensing items/extracting items, and run them through a not gate. When the comparator reads 0, the not gate flips and lets the cart go on it's way.

Honestly, we could use a new spotlight as soon as the mod gets updated to 1.10 or where ever CoJag goes next. But most of the old spotlights work. Just be aware that Locking tracks are now a single block that becomes all the various holding/boarding tracks you see in older spotlights.

The train side of railcraft, more or less, is designed to keep you from having to lay a thousand powered tracks in addition to all the regular tracks. (Having lain more track than is necessarily good for my mental health, and planning to lay more yet, this would be insanely annoying.) Trains do have a minor issue of not being quite as fast as you might expect them, or being a lot faster. Though the death messages when you get whacked are amusing.

It is kind of clunky, I admit, but at the same time, there's depth in the mod that most people don't see. For example: To celebrate the fourth, I set up a vanilla firework launcher run by a minecart running back and forth across detector tracks. (On the Xbox360 for portability.) Then thought 'I can do better'. And used Railcraft to Orchestrate it. Because it includes one way detector rails, that only give signal when the cart goes the correct way, so you can have it do things only when the cart goes in the direction of the arrow.

Questions:

* How does one interface Immersive Engineering cables to (say) buildcraft kinesis pipes? Seems I'll need a Capacitor to get power from my distribution to my devices.
* Is an early game IE cable based power distribution even feasible? There are no LV relays so that means I need HV cables and transformers? Or do I just need to make expensive HV relays but can use them with LV cable?

As far as I know, IE cable ends should just snap together with BC pipes. Make sure it's going into a wooden pipe, but otherwise it shouldn't be an issue. There's a special render for it in fact.

As far as I know only HV cable work on HV relays. Try MV? That's the usual early/mid game power distribution.

NEI indicates that there are only HV relays in Infinity Evolved Skyblock so it seems I need to invest in rather more kinesis pipe than I intended..

HV has relays, but the LV and MV just use respective connectors. As I remember, they're relatively cheap for the distance it allows you to cover.

Don't forget that ImmEng Powered Lanterns can also be used to link LV cables, and they act like Magnum Torches to boot.

Ah. Yes, relays only exist for HV. You can only connect two HV Connectors together. You have to use Relays to pass power farther along, or link multiple connectors. Lower levels can be connected across connectors. So you can connect two MV connectors, and then to a third. Same with LV.

Oh. I've played the 1.8.9 version of IE before and that I'm pretty sure had LV connectors AND relays.

Is there any way to transform Immersive Engineering Creosote to Railcraft or the other way?

If you have a sample of each, lock a JABBA Barrel with each, as they will autoconvert to oreDict. Without a sample of the desired product, I'm afraid I don't know of any way to do it.

They're already oredicted, so they should work in any recipe that calls for either. You can make IE treated wood with Railcraft creosote, and RC ties with the IE version.

The I.E. Oil bottles don't work in a carpenter so it's actually a Forestry problem. If I decant into a tank and then use a bucket the immersive bucket does work. So I can presumably pipe fluids in.

An interesting oddity between the two, ImmEng returns your bottle when used in crafting recipes where as the RailCraft Creosote is used entirely. But, yes, several instances exist where having one bottle over the other is preferable.

Piping it into the Carpenter should solve some if the issue for you.

You might also be able to use a Bottler to unbottle it. Alternately, set a Portable Tank on top and set it to auto output and it should dump straight in after you click the bottles on it.

I haven't looked at hyper-rationing pipes. What do those do?
They allow at most one item into the attached inventory; if there's an item in there already, they won't put another in. (See also rationing pipes, which allow up to a stack of items)

You can also do this with Thermal Dynamics - use a signalum or enderium filter, which allows you to set the max number of items allowed into the attached inventory. But they're significantly more expensive to make.

Same can be done with a Translocator, if you apply a diamond nugget to the targeted one, it can filter in a precise amount of items.
