Greetings, all!

I'm liking FTB Infinity (FTBI) more than my previous modpack (Tekkit). There are some things I miss and would like included in a future version:

-Treecapitator. Being able to hack down all trees with an axe by just attacking the bottommost square of said tree is handy and efficient. It's slightly more efficient than the default game's 'chop and move' strategy to harvest everything. This method seems to produce more saplings due to using a tree to remove an entire tree (with brances) at effectively the same time. If this mod is included in FTBI, I would like Treecapitator not to work on the giant redwood trees since part of the fun of the redwoods is carving them away block by block.

-GalactiCraft. I chose Tekkit because I wanted to go to the moon. Due to server glitches, we never reached that point.

It also turns out that these mods I wanted are already in FTBI.
-MystCraft. I like going to alternate dimensions and making my own dimensions. It seems fascinating to finally combine this with BiblioCraft, Thaumcraft and a host of other mods from FTBI!

-Nether Ores. This mod turns the nether into a higher-risk, higher-return mod instead of of just a higher-risk with generally low return regardless area.

There already is trecapitator like mechanics. Lumber axes already take out a tree in one go. There's also the axe of the stream.
Trecapitator kind of makes a lot of axes obsoleted by a stone axe. It's likely left out for balance reasons.

Also while dimension mods make the game unstable. Having Galacticraft would be neat.

Regardless of balance, I'd still like Treecapitator added. It heavily incentivizes getting an axe early and makes chopping down trees easy! No more hunting for that last, hidden(?) wood block to make the tree collapse!

Other mods I'd like are:

Backpack Mod: This mod adds backpacks (a notion which is in FTBI already) and crafting table backpacks (which is different).

ChromatiCraft: Color trees and more dyes! There's more stuff too!

You don't craft an axe early? Even in Vanilla I craft an axe to chop down trees. I even use some diamonds to make one.
There's already plenty of incentives to get an early axe. Unless you waste your coal on torches. Can't have charcoal without a lot of logs.
I build my first house out of logs and planks. Also within the first hour of mining I need at least 4 barrels (one for cobbbe, dirt, gravel and coal). I don't fancy doing that by hand.
Plus since you are talking about incentive, don't you think Trecapitator disentivises getting late axes. All you need is 5 stone axes then you hit tree farms.
That being said, Trecapitator can be balanced. I'd be all for if it was set to the mode where it makes chopping take longer and calculates the damage according to how many blocks there are. I've seen similar Bukkit plugins do something similar in Vanilla.

Maybe packs set it to an easier mode, that or the Bukkit plugin I used did things differently.
Also if Treecapitator is tweaked right you can make a lumber axe still a viable choice. They will still have a lot of durability and can have their speed increased to all buggery. Regular axes at best can be sped up to efficiency 5.
But if Treecapitator works on hatchets.

Either way, now that I think about it, wasn't there a technical reason it's not used?

Treecapitator: Benefitting from this mod requires an axe, and the time to cut down a tree is determined by the total number of wood blocks there are to cut. (Better axes can still reduce this cutting time.) It's still simpler than wood block hunting.

Adding mods: My friends and I have been playing for over a week on a friend's server and I'm leery about adding or changing any mods due to wanting to retain our progress. We've already had at least 1 server bug out on us before (Tekkit mod pack) and restarted using FTB Infinity.

How would we go about adding mods to the modpack while still keeping our progress? How stable is such a solution? What else should we know?

Use the "edit modpack" feature of the launcher; it's near the top but below all the different pages for tabs. Select the .jar from wherever you've downloaded it and click 'add mod.' Done. :)
For the server, just drop them in the mods folder.
As for stability - unless there are bugs with the actual mods themselves, the action of adding mods is no big deal. Now, there may actually be bugs with the mods, so you'll want to read the last couple forum pages first. Other than that, though, you'll be fine. :)

To be honest, getting a lumber axe with TiCo isn't hard, and doesn't take long, even if you put in iguana tweaks to gate TiCo item progression.
Trecapitator is redundant in Infinity, IMO.

But like many folks have stated, there is nothing stopping you from adding it to Infinity if you want.

Personally, I've removed Mystcraft, and have added Witching Gadgets and Traveler's Gear and find myself quite happy.

While customizing your modding experience is the premier way of playing modded minecraft. It makes multiplayer a bit of a headache.
As you have to not only sync your server and personal clients up but you have to hope your other players are savvy enough to match your server. Otherwise there's a lot of hand holding nessesary.
So as obnoxious as it can be I can understand why folks would ask for mods to be added officially to the main packs. Even if they go against the packs design by diminishing other mods.

Keep in mind that any mods added can have conflicts with existing mods already in the pack. Be sure to back up your world first so you can recover from an "unforseen incident".
