So my Mindcrack world got corrupted way back in February and I still, to this day, haven't made another FTB world. When Ultimate came out, I decided that instead of making a new world, I would join some servers. Well since then to now, I played on about 5 servers and they all didn't work out so well. Some had to reset while others just couldn't afford to pay for it. After over 6 months of FTB, I am left with nothing. So currently, I have 3 choices: Play on 1.4.7, Play on 1.5.2, or just wait for 1.6.
Since I expect 1.6 to roll out during August when school starts again, I really don't wanna waste my summer waiting for it. 1.5.2 lacks some mods that I just can't live without ,but on the other hand, there are a bunch of new updates and goodies.1.4.7 has all the mods ,but they aren't being updated anymore and most of them are old versions. So I am in a dilemma here and I don't know which path to take. I also plan on adding about 15-30 additional mods too as well invest alot of time in the world so I need to make a decision. I can't stand waiting anymore since I have waited for over a month and I love FTB. I know the chances to slim to none , but I would also like to update my world to 1.6 when it rolls out if possible. So what do you guys think? Should I stick with 1.4.7 or move on to 1.5.2? I will really miss xycraft, RP2, and xeno's reliquary if I move on to 1.5.2 so I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks.

There's no solution to your dilemma. 1.6 will break compatibility with old worlds to some degree, this has already been confirmed (at minimum you'll lose a lot of your stuff, especially any kind of liquid). No getting around that.

But, you can't expect someone else to make the decision for you. If you go to a restaurant, do you ask your friends what you should order? Of course not, you'll only end up with a meal that you don't like. So why are you asking for others to tell you what pack to play? You'll only end up with regrets later.

Just one piece of advice: if you always wait for the perfect conditions, you'll wait forever. If you want to play now, then play now. Make a decision, or if that won't work, then throw a coin. Just don't sit around waiting.

So if you eat at a restaurant where they have food you've never eaten before (the first time you eat Sushi for example) you don't ask your friends (who have eaten there before) for advice? That just sounds like you don't thrust your friends to me and asking them what they like or what they're going to order can never hurt. I've relied on advice from friends/family plenty of times in the past and I've never had any serious regrets.

I do agree with the "don't wait for the perfect release" thing though, with MC you'll wait forever because there's always new/more stuff "coming soon".

Play 1.5.2. Build your own modpack, use one of the beta packs, or resonant rise, or whatever. Theres so much cool new stuff in 1.5.x!

(It was a rhetorical device meant to illustrate the point.)
What point? That asking for advice is something you shouldn't do because you won't end up with what you want? All I'm saying is that asking for advice/questions about these things can only help you make a decision, it never hurt anyone to ask (at least not about things like food and mod packs).

Also I don't see how your restaurant example illustrates your "don't wait for the perfect release" point, they look like very different to me. If you're using an analogy/rhetorical device the most important thing is that it actually clarifies the point you're trying to make, imho yours doesn't prove your point (don't wait for perfection) or it points to something I don't agree with at all (don't ask questions/for advice).

On topic: Personally I would go with 1.5, but that's because there is so much cool new stuff in it. Then again, I'm not invested in my worlds to the point I want them to last a year or more. Imho you have to make a trade, make new worlds often and have the latest mods/updates/features or stick with 1 patch/pack a long time and keep your world as it is. Updating worlds is just a no-no in my book, often because they have new world gen and want that :p

1.4.7 - mainstream older packs. "Stable" and available via the ftb launcher. Pick your flavor of older modded minecraft and enjoy

1.5.x - DIY methods. Lots of info on these forums, suggested mods & threads that lay it out for you. You get to pick your own mods and get into the current versions of your favorite mods. Downside is that you become your main trouble shooter. But you get new content and aren't limited by the launcher.

1.6 - does not exist. Go grab a vanilla snapshot and play with horses, donkeys, & mules. There's also annoying villager sounds.

Basically Omicron stated that no one can decide for you. But this is a broad generalization based upon your post title.

There are also beta packs in the launcher (codes are "152wgt" and "152ngt" for with and without GregTech, respectively).

My personal viewpoint is that 1.6 isn't out yet, and may be a little while. 1.4.7 is stable, etc. but is lacking some of the new shiney stuff (I'm really liking Tinker's Construct). 1.5.2 also has a number of performance enhancements, too. Not perfect by any means, but it seems to be mostly stable.

Use this time to learn the new mods in 1.5.2 packs (there's a couple but rather large ones) and get used to the changes in the updated mods.

I agree with b0bst3r. There are some mods that aren't included in the 0.5 version of the 1.5.2 pack, but there are some that are weren't included in the 1.4.7 pack as well as many updates to several mods. I would recommend you start playing on 1.5.2 and get to learn the new mods and the new updates to current mods as well as familiarizing yourself with some of the new mechanics (holding left/right click on the crafting interface is awesome).
