We need some steam base defence. Low damage to un armored targets, but damage scales up according to how much "armor points" they have (because metal conducts heat). Also, Steam butcher room. Drop a whole cow in a room filled with steam, get like 5x the amount of steamed meat for your troubles, slightly sadistic/torturey but still fun.

Steam-Powered item cannons. Pump some steam in, deposit items with a hopper or anything else that puts stuff into an inventory, it shoots something a certain distance, which changes with the amount of steam. I admit it's been a while since I used FSP, so if there's pressure, use that instead. It fires on a redstone pulse. Just collect it with a hopper. To make this easier to work, perhaps make a limiter pipe to limit the amount of steam that passes through?

Real world style pneumatic tubes would be cool and steam would be a workable power system. A basic working system would need the following parts; two access port connected by tubes, steam pressure tanks attached to the access ports and finally the item capsule that would carry your items. The access ports would allow you to add/remove items from the capsule's inventory or even remove the capsule. Operation could be manual or be controlled by redstone signals and the sending access port would need be to sealed while the receiving port needs to be unsealed(all that pressure needs to go somewhere or else BOOM). An advanced system could make use of tubes that can emit redstone signals(both dector rail system and compairitor style), carry redstone signals(preserving the level of input) and a junction tube that changes the open direction based on the redstone signal it receives.

Does this mod have an ore doubling or quadrupling mechanic? If there isn't, I would like to see the addition of several ore processing machines like a rock crusher, ore washer and a crystallizer for processing your ores into valuable ingots. I would also like to see a steam-powered drilling machine for extremely fast ore mining.

And if this should ever be included into a survival map-pack like Crash Landing, I think that any steam boilers and machines that are running should produce a bit of heat.

Thematically it doesn't really fit the best with this mod, as this mod focuses on invention and tools and such, not how to get more ore through means like that. If anything I feel more alloys and such would be really cool, especially if you can have cross mod functionality (Vibrant Terrasteel sound cool to anyone else?)

Why not give the mod a try so you can see what it offers in terms of ore processing? It actually has had a very cool rock smasher for a while, and for making things provided by the mod, one can opt to use plates instead of ingots. The mod gives you more plates than ingots per smelt, which is a nice reward for using more of the technology within the mod.

As for item transport with no knowledge of what's difficult to code.

For steampunk I envision robot arms running back and forth on chain conveyors ran by cogwheels.

Like the arm zipping back and forth grabbing stacks of items placing them where needed.

Yes it has ore processing.

There is auto mining as well.

Seems interesting.

Steam powered submarines. Not sure how you would go about it, but it sounds fun. Also, parachutes. Because sometimes you need to bail from your suit, and need a parachute to float down.

I suppose some kind of bathysphere would work, the main problem is that there is bugger all in the ocean.

These seem more like ideas for Archimedes' Ships, but since you asked for suggestions:
  • Steam powered boat? Not breakable except by the player, and requires steam in its tank to move, but goes at like 2.5-5x the speed of a normal boat. It could have like a paddlewheel on it, too... if you're feeling creative.
  • Hot air balloon? Put steam in its tank, let some into the balloon part to ascend, open the valve at the top to descend.

I really like that idea. Reminds me of the old Stone Boats mod.
