Damn, I am going to say... Steve's Carts plus Railcraft - they almost function as a single mod (I said almost)!
Really, I thought people in vanilla did not give a fuck about rails and carts, now almost every mod thing (automated mining, farming, MJ production, EU and liquid transportation) can be done by rails! Isn't that awesome?
Yet most people forget about these mods, mainly due to their difficulty curve which resembles more a brick wall than an actual difficulty curve.

In order of the amount I like them, from first being the most to the ones that I kind of like.
1. RP2
2. IC2
3. Computer craft/Misc Peripherals
4. Steves Carts 2
5. Forestry/ExtraBees
6. Railcraft
7. Thermal Expansion
8. Twilight Forest
9. MFR
10. Soul Shards

I haven't seen MFR since... hell, I think it was still Beta back then. Is it really worth a mention in this thread these days?

mfr has loads of cool stuff, arguably some of it makes some things too easy (I'm sure greg wants to get his hands on it).

I can't choose a particular mod, I really like certain items from all sorts of mods (factorization pocket crafting table being my favourite single item) and I like it when things from different mods interact (e.g. AE ME network controlling the amount of water cells being made by a TE aqueous/transposer setup and feeding them into a gtech grinder for ore processing).

edit: damn forgot thaumcraft, love tc3, miss some stuff from tc2 though; seals were awesome, hidden stuff under obelisks was good too!

1. thaumcraft: everything has to do with each other, a mod focussed into one thing, it makes sence, not like a tech mod and suddenly magical purple goo that does everything
2. Immibis microblocks: works with every mod in existence and if it doesn't exist can be added in the config, every block added by mods can be cutted, and if they can't, add it to the config. Always updated, a bit of bugs here and there fixed in 1-2 days, not in 1-2 updates.
3. MMMpowersuites: a balanced and better quantum armor, very customizable, amazing in evey way.
4. Thermal expansion: better than IC2 in every way, works with MJ's like most big mods. Nothing else to say.

In no particular order:

-EE2... Mercurial Eye, how I miss thee. And other things too, but the Eye especially.
-Applied Energistics: Edged out logistics pipes as my favorite method for automation, and storage monitors look awesome.
-Modular Power Suits: I love that you can start on your power suit early in the game and slowly make improvements as you acquire resources. Beats that stinky old quantum suit any day.
-Minefactory Reloaded: Orders of magntitude more interesting than older versions, MFR is now my favorite way for automating animal breeding and farms.
-Forestry/Extra Bees: I admit I'm not a fan of the new farm, but I am a complete sucker for bees.
-Redpower2: Other mods give you blocks that act as machines. RP2 gives you components and tell you to build the machine yourself. If only it had better documentation...

Railcraft: Because I love the aesthetic of rails, yet I still haven't got round to Steve's Carts...
Forestry: Mostly because of bees, but also having another alternative to the main buildcraft engines is nice
Thermal Expansion: Incredibly user friendly, and some brilliant additions. Plus who doesn't love the portability?
Redpower2: frames,frames,frames....

Yeah I keep meaning to play around with it. When I manage to motivate myself to actually get some work done, I'm gonna set up a server for me and some mates and then its Steve's Carts time 100%

Just be sure you have something else to do while the cart assembler does its thing. I've had carts that take 4+ hours to create. Well worth it though.

I so need the mercurial eye right now.
Or any way of instantly placing blocks into walls. (I suppose a turtle could do it but I'm too worried I'll build it the wrong size in the wrong place or have the server die again halfway through, leaving a mess to clean up...)

I love MFR! After adding it in the DW20 pack, I've been using it alot. I love the idea of small but efficient farms.
