Reactorcraft's fusion reactor without a doubt - if you can manage to build the thing and fuel it. Big Reactors is definitely my other option if I don't want to spend a huge chunk of time building a humongous reactor. Of course, not to say that I don't always do that :P

Ive used many over the last few versions. My old 1.4.7 magmatic engine setup was probably my favorite just because it looked so cool. Big Reactors and Mek Turbines are cool too. That was when people still needed IC2 for some things and simple generators with coal coke always did the trick for me on the EU side of things.

Generator with blood magic thingy doodler lava thingy in it

Until big reactor, unless i have RoC and ReC

Blood magic-fueled Botania mana-to-power gen of course! And then HydraulicCraft's converting stuff to turn that into any other power system that I'd need to do.
Or a tree farm that goes through endoflame-fueled furnaces, who's charcoal goes to Railcraft/Fb's SPM/HC's systems. Not too sure with RotaryCraft I haven't been able to download it nor the rest due to internet issues, so I'll have to figure out that when a 1.7 pack comes with it and the addons.

so few people mention reactorcraft :c
rotarycraft/reactorcraft/electricraft are the only tech mods i can stand to use for more than just ore processing

Call me lazy if you wish but I still use Solar power (Extra Utilities now though.) and I still love to use oil as a back up too.

Someone needs to make a mod that harnesses villager power somehow.

Edit: And not the matrix. I want something were I can watch the life get sucked out of 'em and transferred into a box. Or maybe a treadmill for them to create RoC shaft power.

How about some piezo tiles from Engineer's Toolbox?

Hilariously fun power? Engineer's Piezo Tiles, plus Open Block's fans. Setup a zombie spawner to drop zombies in and the tiles slowly kill them while generating energy.

Me, I kind of like using Engineer's Hydro Electric Dams, with solar panels on top if I've got a river. If not, nothing beats an RC boiler for sheer reliability.

knowing boiler's explosive tendencies(haven't experienced them though) wouldn't a big reactor be a more reliable?

Early game I tend to use the manpowered turbine thingy from Mariculture, then I move on to solar for stuff like my AE system and hootch in a combustion generator for everything else. Because having a base powered by booze is fun.

Basically, I provide water either with Two Aqueous Accumulators under the boiler, or with EU Liquid Transfer Nodes doing the infinite water thing. As long as the boiler is loaded, so is the water. If the water is unloaded, so is the boiler. Prevents all flavors of booms. I used to use Steve's Carts for charcoal farms, but I'm not sure if that's going to be worth it now.

Big Reactors are awesome for large infusions, but the power is not renewable without pumping it into MFR mining lasers. Or intensive strip mining.

Back in my 1.5.2 world, I used wood in coke oven. The saplings got converted to biofuel, and that plus the charcoal and creosote oil powered 4 railcraft boilers. I ran my whole base off of the steam.

In AgS, I used steam created by the high oven to power everything.

So, I would have to say steam is my favorite.

Any one forgetting gregs fusion reactor? I almost had that till a prank went wrong and crashed the server
