For me Factorization is just an awesome mod. I usually build the slag furnace about my fourth or fifth block. It is just an useful thing. Yes it takes double the fuel to run at first but being able to get bonus stone as well as a chance of more ore is worth it. Taking eight copper ore, as example, and getting eleven is nice. Yeah getting nine diamonds can seem to be a PITA but for the 300% increase in ore is so worth it. The mirrors look rather cool and don't detract at all. Also, incase no one noticed, but one episode of Direwolf's SMP had steam being used by Factorization so yes Molly you can have more power if you so wish it.

Having the furnace heater is just great as it can help make the slag as well as regular furnace free to use. As in no EU/MJ/Blue power. Yes you need mirror and a solar generator but the nice thing is it can be very compact. One heater with about ten mirrors can run a regular furnace, slag furnace and crystalizer. Crystalizers also do more then ores. Put in lime green dye and milk, wait a bit, bingo slimeballs! Only thing I wish was the slag furnace be able to smelt more ores.

No, it's self contained. BC improves everything, of course, by adding pipes. In any case, if there's one thing that can be criticized about the mod is really the time it takes the Crystallizer to complete a cycle. The speed should be able to be boosted with some kind of upgrade or another upgraded version of the Crystallizer, to allow for more compact designs. Furnace heaters work well, but still, would be really nice if they could be sped up even more.

I think the Crystalizer is more set it and forget it. You know it will get done just takes time, like most things in life.

Yes, but now, if you want to run a large scale mining operation, you have to set multiple Crystallizers in order to keep up with the amount of resources you get. This gets expensive and it gets big. Right now, you need a Crystallizer per ore you want to process, with some sort of filtering of items that go into them, in order to prevent the Crystallizer from getting stopped by having multiple kinds of reduced metal chunks inside of it, and also to improve the speed at which you get your resources. Each Crystallizer also needs to be adjacent to at least 3 Furnace Heaters in order to make it run that much faster, and that just ends up taking a whole lot of space to set up, because you *will* need more Crystallizers when you start mining in really large scale.

And, right now, it's not really able to keep up with the more common ores. If you try to process Iron, Tin or Copper through, you'll know what i mean by that. Eventually your input chest will be full, and you'll be hurting for metals, even though you have a lot of them being processed right at that time. So yeah... Upgrades to the Crystallizer would be a really cool feature. Or, possibly, upgrades to the Furnace Heater, which would work out even better as you could speed up all of your ore processing chain with them.

I see what you are saying. I haven't had to use it for massive ore intake as of yet. Hmmm maybe something like how TC has. Place a heat source under the crystalizer to help speed up the process used in conjunction with a furnace heater?

I think that's the point, to make more machine and automate them all (routers are your friend). With 72 crystalizers you can get quite good supply of metals in reasonable time. For different ores I use frame machine to move 5 routers designed to feed free crystallization tower with the ores that I want to process (I don't think it really save that much resources on router, but definitely is more fun).
