I do have to say that it does resemble EE2 quite a lot, but then so do most early-generation magic systems. I have the theory that most mod devs get all excited for their system of choice (essence, EMC, vis, EU, MJ), and decide on all the things that they can cajole it into doing. Then they start looking at how it plays with other things, and the changes that vanilla makes, and decide that the system is broken and needs a rewrite. Bring on Ars Magica 2!

I've looked at it, but I don't think I'll be using it, at least not for awhile. If I do end up using it, I'll just regenrate my magic chunks or something. I'm all for more magic, but I don't want the magic system to conflict with Thaumcraft too much. The worldgen also seems annoying as hell.

It's a great mod, I'm sure, and I could probably develop some headcanon for it, but right now, it interferes with my role-play.

People seem to be complaining a lot about the worldgen, but I don't really mind it. The structures are not uncommon, but I'd put them at about the same frequency as villages with EBXL installed, and they are rather nice to go and inhabit if you can't be bothered to make a house (or always end up with really blocky ones).

Sure, but they insult my sense of style. I don't mind building around a village, because they feel so incomplete, but with those, it feels like I'm in someone else's house.

Mithion has mentioned he plans to completely overhaul the worldgen, so for those with that problem, it is on its way. Currently, he has been finishing up and optimizing the spell system so combining spells can do some REALLY cool stuff. Example: There may be spell quarries.

There are spell quarries, dig + healing ring.

I'm looking forward to the worldgen overhaul, that's the most important thing that keeps me away from AM, then textures, but im sure i could make my own textures and then, happy ending :D

I'm currently having a lot of fun exploring it, finding the spells (which is a real pain), and progressing through everything. That being said, I suspect that I won't be bothering too much when I have actually gotten to the top of it. It adds an entertaining new "story", but I doubt it's replayability.

The thing about ars magica is that as you grow, mobs grow, and you can modify spells.. so even in "the top of it" you will still find it usefull.[DOUBLEPOST=1368021510][/DOUBLEPOST]
mate, it's awesome, just like thaumcraft :D

Nope, thaumcraft textures are in pair with minecraft, they just "go well" in the context, but ars magica doesn't.. It's hard to explain, i can't find the words, but thaumcraft does feel "minecrafty" while AM feels like.. Umm... Requiem memento mori? xD

Absolutely. It breaks the immersion, at least for me, because it is so jarring. Here we are in a fanciful blocky world, full of wonderful blocky imagery, and then suddenly we are confronted with a block that has far more definition than anything around it. It is as if aliens came down, dropped their 5th dimensional plasma holo-viewer and I'm stuck going insane trying to tear my eyes away from the crazy sight in front of me.

I can see the points about the textures. They are lovely but I can see how they can distract you.

I love the world gen. But I'm an adventurer at heart, so there's that.

Also, the "OPness" - eh. I've been playing with this mod for a while now, and I just don't use the things I find ridiculously easy.

I suppose I see what you're gettign at there, fair play to you mate :p[DOUBLEPOST=1368032099][/DOUBLEPOST]Yeah, maybe Mythion should do something to make the textures fit in more, especially the one that fixes tools I guess

From his EAQs:
I don't like the hi-res models/textures.

I don't like how limiting it is having to make things in a 16x16 scope. And I do like how it looks. You can always replace the sprites with something lower res if you feel like doing the work yourself.

So yea, don't think that's going to happen.

I'm actually really excited for it. please don't crucify me :c
I don't actually find it that over-powered, simply because of the amount of effort to learn and make spells.
I think my opinion might be a little biased because I've been a bigger fan of the magic side of the modpacks.
Also hearing Slowpoke's opinion on Ars kinda irked me.

I am neither excited for Ars Magicka, nor unimpressed by it, because I've used it pretty much since the open beta was launched.
The lore for the mod seems to imply that there has been a IK-Class Scenario in which most civilization was blown to smitheroons(or something like that). Plenty of dead people, but not everyone and the world and all that was built(well, most anyway) is intact.(hence why it's only a IK-Class Scenario)
And the player is able to learn from what others have done, become a mage, and whatnot.

That being said, the Arcane Reconstructor looks fucking AWESOME... the model anyway. The textures need some work. Like, lighting the computer which they were drawn with on fire using Thermate, then buying a new one and trying again.
Ugh, I need to find a way to get the smell of all this blood off of me... Its bugging me.

Also: I am excited to hear the people who love to hate on EE2 yelling about how they can turn cobble into gold really fast now. I cannot wait to hear the lamentations. I will then build a vanilla infinite gold farm that actually goes faster than all but the fanciest Ars setups and lol forever. Because it is so funny.

Meanwhile the uncrafting table from TF is still more broken and abusable than EE2 ever was.

Very, very few people I've met have really dug into Ars. The spell system is insanely deep.

Ars Magica, doesn't feel, OP or Broken to me, Just unfinished. It has many interesting game-play elements in place, it just needs some polish.

The biggest problem with the world gen for me is not the frequency, but it's emptiness. The structures need more "life" to them.
