That is very dependent on the realism. When you deal with realistic looking things, you find yourself near the Uncanny Valley.

That only applied to stuff that's almost human looking but not 100%. That doesn't apply to minecraft at all.[DOUBLEPOST=1378813366][/DOUBLEPOST]
Even pumping around items in pipes isn't even close to realistic.

It seems that your definition even in games of the word realism is 100% accurate compared to real life. In my opinion, especially when it comes to games like Minecraft, it's not a definition that's of any use. I think that if people talk about realism in the context of minecraft they are talking about realism within the boundaries of the minecraft world.

And that's the biggest problem here: people are using wildly different concepts of realism and don't listen to each other when it comes to trying to understand what the other means.

It applies more or less to realism. That's personally how I see it, if you don't see it that way, that's your opinion. I just find that things that aren't particularly realistic aren't well liked, but things that are extremely realistic or have a couple realistic features but don't base themselves on realism organize the same way as the uncanny valley. I'm aware they're not the same, it just fits in my view.

The term "Uncanny valley" isn't "just my opinion", it's about humans and human-like appearances. Period. It has everything to do with our mind reacting to stuff that seems to be 'dead'. It's simply wrong to mention this in relation with Minecraft. The Uncanny valley isn't about stuff being 'fun' or 'not fun', it's about stuff that creeps you the F out :)

A little bit more complexity about the uncanny valley (which can be used from robotics to drawings to videogames to movies to voices to whatever) :
We have to peaks of human interest in stuff: stylization and hyper-realism. In stylization (sorry if I am mispelling that), the human characteristic stand out from something that definetively ISN'T human (take Monsters Inc. for example - there's an extra appeal to it because how human the character's personalities and world are, but at the same time, it is something that feels different). In hyper-realism, the realism level is so high it actually feels human, so it doesn't bother us. Between that, there's the uncanny valley. It is where the non-human characteristics of something slightly human-like stand out, and thus it bother us (and in some cases, makes us create brick-shaped holes in our underwear).
In short, the uncanny valley explains why non-realistic stuff sometimes actually feels more realistic, more smooth than semi-realistic stuff that fails somewhere.

To the people arguing for me -

I wasn't talking about realism. That's a terrible argument for a game where you punch trees to get wood in a block world.

What i MEANT was -

If you somehow used lava to heat water and make steam, The lava wouldn't be consumed. It's not a flammable fuel. It's a heat source.
And what happens if the lava isn't consumed? infinite practically free energy. That's what we call imbalanced (or for some, "OP"), people.

Covertjaguar knew what he was doing when he blacklisted lava from boilers when he introduced them to the mod.

The lava wouldn't be consumed but it would burn out. Charcoal isn't "consumed" either. If you mean to incorporate realistic measures nothing that is normally consumed in minecraft in place of energy actually is. They generally just change state or a different form of the same state. Though Mojang set the standard for this with the vanilla furnace not having such additional depth.

And as someone pointed out earlier a mod that is highly un-configurable shouldn't really be put into a mod pack where the pack has to work around the balance of a mod which has decided that it is to only be shipped with, large in-part, one set of balance standards. So then; why do we have railcraft in the first place?

And for reference I do not dislike railcraft for the most part but being biased about what is acceptable based on some mod that we've either just "always used" or it has something you like is silly. Judge a mod based on its own merit rather than your own selfish expectations. If it has something that peeks your interest and are willing to submit to a balance the author decided upon so be it.

Same reason as Hydra, as well as the iron and steel tanks because XyCraft is skipping 1.5 for 1.6 instead. :(

I like the steel tanks personally, going to stick to them. I hope XyCraft doesn't try to one-up RC again with a cheaper version.

I wouldn't mind if XyCraft's tanks have a smaller volume with the same size. What I like about it is I can make it ANY blocks I like with it.

Isn't it funny how a thread originally made to talk about an OP mod and it's equivalents in the current version of minecraft have turned into a debate about balancing a mod.

It's strange sometimes where thread de-railing leads you.

It was a joke,sheez :D

I got that lol. It just felt like one of those times you're talking to people about something in a fairly srs manner then someone walks up and makes some random remark about it and all of you can't help but to laugh at it.

Yay retarded phone triple posting.
