Hi
Probably been discussed before but I can't find answers via Google but what's an early game way to power thermal expansion machines for the direwolf 1.6.2 pack. From unleashed the easy way was force engines but I can't seem to find a way to power as they don't accept bc power anymore. Please help
Thanks

Spamming survivalist engines works for me. Look up how to set up steam dynamos once you have a decent amount of coal for some more advanced power.

A 1x1 steam boiler will provide a lot of power without much effort early on, and is easily expandable. The only hard part is getting a fire charge.

Small boilers aren't that efficient, you're better off with regular engines. Very early on survivalist generators are cheap to make, plus you can stack them together to save space.

I went with the survivalist engine at first... 1 piece of (char)coal produces 5 RF/tick for about 26 minutes. This charges a basic leadstone energy cell before distribution.

I next added a Macerator so I could make the alloy needed to build a culinary engine, which uses edibles as fuel rather quickly (1 piece = 18 seconds) but produces more RF/tick depending on the fuel type. It's also quicker to grow crops than it is to look for coal to mine or wood to chop (I know, I could grow wood but food is faster right now). :D

After a bit of mining I was able to upgrade to a Hardened Leadstone cell, bumping my current capacity from 400,000 to 2,000,000 RF. each engine has an internal buffer of 500,000 RF, BTW.

True, but I can run a Steam Dynamo, Steam Oven, and a Factorization Turbine off the same boiler. Not at the same time, but it's all one power source.

Wait what? 1x1 boiler?

Didn't know you could have those! Are we talking a RC boiler?

Yep. One Firebox, one boiler piece. I used to use a low pressure one to run my 1.5.2 tree farm to get enough power to build the max size reactor, so it's pretty potent.

Very early in 1.6 i build 1 survivalist engine and 1 furnace engine. The survivalist engine stay on and slowly build up a charge while I use the furnace engine when I need a quick burst of energy. It's enough before the next step.

Right now i'm in love with the big reactors. I think you only need about 15 yellorite ore and 30 iron ore to get started and start a 3x3x(3-4-5) reactor. It will be enough for a small quarry and your daily need in energy.

Then I expend it into a 5x5 reactor with rods in the 4 corners. I like this design the most because the empty space make a + shape which can be filled with one single bucket of coolant. I then dig underground to expand it and make it bigger and bigger.

Right now I run a quarry, 3 laser drill and an extractor on a 5x5x12 bigreactor.

Edit: Another option in 1.6 is to go for the "infinite" lava multiplication with a RC rock melter and magmatic dynamos.

If you have a small abundance of redstone you can go with a Heated Redstone generator. A small tank of lava and a stack of redstone can go a VERY long way with a throughput that will suffice until you can get a more powerful system in place.

If you're playing in Monster, and want a HP boiler, RoC Steel is easy to make and is OreDict with RC steel to make the plates. Anyone else use RC as a method of boosting the output of generators by cooking some of the coal into coke? Most things that eat coal also eat coke, excepting a few recipes, and it burns a lot longer. Especially now thtat it's available in block form.

Lately, since I started using Mekanism, I just make wind turbines. Of course cant make one of those without a little bit of power, and for that I used an Extra Utilities furnace generator which has been sitting in a chest ever since. So a furnace generator is a good bet for early power. With a ticon lumber axe you will never really need to go mining for coal. Especially if it has fortune and smelting on it.
