Direwolf20 uploaded a video a while back stating that he had sent the mods to the FTB team for them to create the new Direwolf20 1.6 pack. The only date he stated for the release was "soon."
That video is here:
Also in the next episode of DireNews he states "The modpack is near completion and should come soon"
That video is here:
My question is what is happening with the modpack?
Has it been abandoned?

wow, why so many of these topics the past few days about the modpacks and the launcher?
you'll all be getting the same answer over and over, it'll come out when it's ready.

yes, direwolf's pack may be ready for release, but he intends to release it through the FTB launcher, which has not been released yet for Minecraft 1.6
in the meantime you've a few options, either keep playing the old modpacks, put together your own modpack, or go play something else while you wait for the launcher to be released.

We are currently in beta testing for the 1.6 packs, the launcher should be rolled out soon.
Thats all we can say, ETA's are bound to go bad because we can say we expect it by a certain date, but if things go wrong, then people will be left hanging because we told them it was coming out on a certain date.

I think they have already been left hanging with the total silence from the ftb team the last few months

A little tidbit of info here and there. :)

One thing everyone should keep in mind it's the new launcher combined with the 1.6 packs all at once causing the delay. A major step to traverse but one a one-time interference I imagine. FTB tries very hard to maintain high quality and, hesitance to talk about current progress behind the scenes aside, everybody will pretty much forget about this delay in under a week post-release. :p

I'd just like to know the mod list, so I can research/play around with any mods I haven't used before. I forget who, but someone on the team stated the mod list is finalized, and the packs have been mostly tested already.

Playing RR lately, there's a couple mods I could not live without that are generally not in FTB:
EnderIO
Project Red
Waila
QuarryPlus

I think all of these have been suggested many times.

the thing is, if the mods are not in the modpacks, you can always add them yourself, or remove mods from modpacks that you don't like.
as there's already quite some 1.6 modpacks being shared, there's a very good chance FTB isn't adding any surprising mods to it's modpack that are new and unknown

As I understand things from the Mojang side it's really good that Mojang is releasing their changes one at a time... The new launcher in 1.6 and the changes to the Block ID system in 1.7, which is currently optional for the time being. Imagine if the Block ID change was required now... 1.7 mods would be months away from completion. As it is, once the new FtB loader is done then all we would need is the new mods (and all the testing, of course) to get a 1.7 version.

As it stands, currently the loaders all have to change to match the 1.6 loader but all the mod developers have at least the 1.7 version span to convert their ID system. Imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if, like some on the Mojang forums wanted, they had released all the changes for the Mod API all at once... It'd be months if not a year to see any new mods. It may take that long to get to the API but at least we get things incrementally.

While you are right, it also increases the risk of game breaking bugs when updating the pack, and some mods require some config editing to get a good balance with the pack. I remember I had TreeCapacitor installed on my Ultimate world and it ended up having some conflicts after an update, causing chunk resets whenever certain trees were cut down. Ever since i've been very careful of adding mods to the pack.

I'd be surprised if we even see 1.7 beta packs before March-April.

I agree... I was only pointing out that if all the new vanilla changes hit at once things would be much, much worse in terms of player impatience.

At least we shouldn't be waiting for a new launcher for a while, once we get the next one...

Somewhere on the internet
I've never ran into any major bugs with the At/Technic packs and they've been out for a very long time, and they aren't even allowed to have adds on any of their sites. I expected better things out of FTB ever since they started becoming a profit-organization, but I've been disappointed.

Quick everyone get your pitchforks... the FTB launcher we get for free isn't doing everything we want when we want it.

I think it's clear we all know best, I think we should burn some people at the stake...

... kill me now...

Hard to phrase this without sounding like a dick.. but...

ATLauncher was made by 1 guy... it is objectively better than what FTB currently has, in addition to supporting 1.6 packs.. FTB has a team, is a business, and it has a grand total of diddly squat released to the public and it's been what? 2, 3 months since we saw the emergence of 1.6 packs on ATLauncher.

By "what FTB has", do you mean the current released FTB launcher or the unreleased 1.6 launcher? I assume you mean the former, by the "1.6 packs" statement as the latter clearly does support 1.6 packs. So, you're comparing the new ATLauncher to the old FTB launcher? What is the point in that?

But this new launcher must be super dooper freaking amazing if it's taking their team months after their main competition has it working, to get it working.
