Hello, I am playing in a server which I am a owner of and I am in a heated war. I outnumber the enemy in number and resources, but I would like to add a second line of defense. I know I can use force fields but those seem a bit out of reach in terms of energy. I have 3 magmatic engines but I can add a few more if neccesary. I was looking at the RotaryCraft railgun but I did not know if it accepted RF and I believe it causes too much damage to use it anywhere near my base.

PS: If you want to join the server tell me. We are about 5 players right now.

What pack are you using? ICBM has automated turrets, but there are more creative traps with other mods.

Oh, and what kind of area are you trying to defend? Is it an enclosed space or open? Large or small?

All smart questions, but more important of them is the last one, then the second last, and then the first.

I'm usually interested in server play, but rarely do join any servers. But of course, one needs to know what mods you use first.(name the pack and we'll know what to expect, even if you've changed it up a bit)

Oh, and if you can't afford to use a force-field, a railgun is way beyond your reach. Also, the terrain damage can be disabled. I wonder...
@Reika, can the terrain damage for round below a certain mass be disabled with the rail gun? I enjoy it for the simple defense potential, but fixing the mess doesn't seem worth it. But limit the damage to rounds below a certain mass(and that aren't explosive), then there is no threat to my base, but I can use it to rain hell on a another base.

I am using FTB monster 1.1.0 and I added Balkons weapons mod, advanced machines, and gravisuite. A am trying to defend a large open space and a small enclosed space. I have used sentry turrets in the past but they are very unreliable.

Just ward the crap out of your base :p

Then add turrets in confined spaces with a 1x1 opening so they can shoot.. Enjoy the show.

We have a rule on not destroying blocks. However, they can still use explosives. They use guerrilla tactics and usually attack at one of at a time and try to sabotage our farms and buldings. When I can find them, we can kill them easily as they are extremely underequipped but they do cause trouble.

You might wanna try several small obsidian or compressed cobblestone walls around some important areas, assuming you have enough of it,if not, ward the base like wolfsilver said.

You can destroy blocks but not by hand. You may use machines, explosives, or other methods

Then nuke the crap out of them, their base, their farms and their pets. Let them learn their lesson. If they are that underequipped they shouldn't be able to retaliate...

The problem is, I do not know where they are. I attacked them once but found out that they had moved after I declared war and the only thing we found was a empty base. Also, the leader was bragging about having a chestplate with the unstable enchantment on it. What does it do?

It uses gunpowder in his inventory to automatically explode whenever he takes damage. Nothing game-changing.

The railgun has its own config option to turn off block damage, but is also controlled by the master "Block Damage From Destructive Machines" option.

As for base defense... Thaumcraft golems would be fantastic for the enclosed space. They regenerate health, fit in little 1x1 holes for ambushes, and can do a ton of damage when geared up and amassed. The turrets from the Portal Gun mod do the same thing, but are slightly less effective.

The large open space is a lost cause until you get MFFS running. Just build walls, keep repairing, and manually defend.

You found them before, so find them again and follow them to their new base? You can also move your base to a mystcraft age and hide the book or make a following book and keep it on you at all times, maybe enchanting it with the enchantment (dont remember how its called, surely someone else knows) that lets u keep the item even when u die..

yessir, i had a couple mounted to an archimedes ship. the biggest problem it had was if you decompiled the ship facing a different direction than you started, the shafts and such freak out.
