You think that's bad? Try mobs that grief you through walls - I'm looking at you ogres from Mo'creatures with your nasty aggro through walls and destroy everything in the way... Sheesh :)

OT: happens to us all at one point or another, and I commiserate with you, never enjoyable when it happens... But as other said, we pick ourselves up and learn our lessons... Now to create a moat filled with lava (of course I'll probably fall into it and lose all my gear now...)

You could just dig a hoho. It's like a haha, but deeper. Give it a lip on the base side to avoid spiders climbing out. You'll also have to cover it with open gates or something, so that mobs actually walk in.

Put some wooden golems on the bottom to collect the loot. (And probably your gear as well)

I personally like spamming the portal turrets from the portal mod :p They're effective against pretty much anything due to their ANNOYING as hell knockback and nice range. Lately though, I decided to lay out around 3-5 stacks of torches around my base, so I don't get many mob spawns at night around my area. Thank god too.. I was tired of creepers blowing up in my house. (Thank god not near my machinery, and thankfully I had obsidian chests too).

I think my worst OMG moment was when a pack of creapers fell into my base all four of them went off wrecking about 95% of the place and destorying most of the dropped items since the all agreed to blow up taking turns to mock me while doing it. Lost about 3 months of work.

good times... good times. I still miss fluffydoomkins my wolf.

Aww yeah... being chain creepered. I've had some of that happen... more than once too, the most memorable one had one that blew up my lab back in 1.2.5.. One second i was there filling up the ol macerator with some coal to make myself a new nanosuit, then boom. nutin but machineblocks left of the whole lab. climbed back out of the hole and started cleaning up the junk that flew all over and patching up the floor, then boom. a second one blows me up and the rest of my lab. since i died, i end up spawning at my bed. unfortunately there were this big hole in the wall after the last one hit me.... guess who came to visit my hospital bed.

I guess them blowing up my shit was just carma... I had been employing IC2 sticky dynamite mining, and guess where all the dynamite came from. :D
I'd rather hunt creepers for an hour than mine with a pickaxe tbh. I just love dynamiting my way trough the rock.

Vans, thats the reason why mob griefing is turned off on my server, people run frame machines and creepers make it a nightmare. If a creeper goes boom near your tunnel bore when its 50000 blocks away then your hosed unless you have "tp to x y z" type command.

WHy are you 50k blocks away with out some sort of backup plan? That is a stargering amount to travel under the idea that nothing could possably go wrong... creepers just be one of many things.

This is why I build portals or rail sysetms or bring a bed and make way points. Any of those things are a great answer to the issue for Hey im going to work 50k away form my base and somethign bad might happen I should probly have some way to get back quickly.

I mean what if you got shot by a skeleton or your frame machine gitchs out and wrecks itself and you die stuck in a wall? how is turning off grifering helping there?

If your letting it run on its own and your not there....well then creepers are not going to randomly blow up as they have no reason to and should not even be spawning in the frist place.

But to each their own how ever you want your game is all your thing. But to me turning griefing off is just well might as well turn off mob spawning to. Oh but you probly want the drops right? just not the risk?

I've had creepers blow up OUTSIDE of my base while I was safely, deep inside. Why? A damn fkin skeleton shot it and it bust a hole through my wall. I've said it once elsewhere, I'll say it again. THANK THE ALMIGHTY FOR OBSIDIAN CHESTS!

Lets keep in mind I don't have portalgun installed, this isn't as easy as flipping a level and walking through the portal.

All in all the machine was designed in such a way that such measures as rail systems or vertical control did not get implemented. I regretted it when it broke down, but my plans for the new version include wireless transmitters so I can use a wireless remote and transmitter for slight course adjustments and tracking it overland.

Biggest problem will be designing a system in which pushing a button pauses the dig action, moves it upwards, then resumes. As I write this I had moment of genius, such as function could be used to move from diamond to copper and tin levels.

By portal I was referring to the old school neither portals used to shorten travel time.

I wonder if a frame machine could make a portal all on its own.....
Time to get on with some science when I get home tonight.

I've recently had a similar experience. In my base, crafting away next to my 8 project tables, when suddenly this creeper drops down from the floor above - boom. All 8 project tables gone, items spewed everywhere.
Luckily the creeper exploded in the center of the room, as my walls are all barrels. Somewhere in my base is block that is not lit enough to stop spawns, and I will track that sod down.

What get's me is the timing of creepers. They always seem to turn up just as you are putting the finishing touches on a build. In my tekkit days I built a red power reed farm. OK, it was night, but due to all the stuff around my base, it is rare for a mob to be wandering around. Just put the finishing pieces to my farm - hiss boom. 1/3rd of my farm destroyed.
Go back and make replacement parts, fix the water leaks, place the last block, hiss - boom.

Creepers are Minecrafts force of nature, you have to live with them, and repair the damage.

I wonder who was high out of their minds while they thought of the creeper. "Hey, hey guys, guys listen, listen this is good! Let's, no wait guys listen! Let's make a hostile mob that's like WALKING TNT, and then we'll have it come out of fking NOWHERE any time a player is doing good! But wait guys, guys, it gets better. It'll look like a walking, green penis!"

I do remember the creeper model was originally a first attempt at making a pig that failed horribly. It was then reused for a mob.

It being silent and exploding is just sadistic. But that also made it one of the most famous game enemies of all time and could very well be a large part of the success of MC. The "that'ssss a nice housssse you have there"-meme probably drew a lot of people to MC who wanted to know what it's all about.

Bottomline: if you want to make a success out of your game make a VERY annoying mob ;)

Eh, it's not like the Creeper's exceedingly original. There's more walking bomb enemies in games than I care to count.

The big difference is, that Minecraft is a sandbox game.

Which makes the creeper a sandbox bully, not just your run of the mill enemy :).

True, but I don't think that there are that many that are silent and actually destroy a large amount of work. Good point about the bully :)
