I have a tree farm but the saplings sometimes fall and i am looking for a way to collect them without using golems... how would you guys do that? I'm using ftb unleashed with gregtech

Water flowing to center, obsidian pipe at center to collect. Pad of dirt for tree hovering above the water by at least 1 block so stuff can travel under the dirt to the pipe.[DOUBLEPOST=1381352357][/DOUBLEPOST]Could also use a hopper instead of a pipe if ya want.

Same as above but I would use the mfr item collector and mfr conveyor belts. The belts give a bit more control on how items flow to your collection point and you don't need any special design element like you do with water.

Now that I'm thinking about it...

MFR conveyer belts surrounding the tree.
Loads of hoppers.
Obsidian pipes everywhere or providing power to the pipe with redstone engines (those increase the range of an obsidian pipe).
Turtles sucking what's on and around them and dumping out the bottom.
Water flowing carrying stuff to a collection point (as I first put).

Those are the other methods I'm aware of right now. :)

what i meant was that the farm grows trees from saplings but i would like to be able to collect the saplings that break without getting rid of the other ones planted

towers of obsidian pipes powered by engines. Looks silly and stupid, wastes alot of energy, but would work.

Thaumostatic magnetizer has a pretty good range. I have one sitting underneath an obsidian pipe to collect gunpowder from a t5 creeper drop zone. If you don't get enough range from one just add more.

If it's a Forestry tree farm wouldn't the saplings be collected anyway?

Yeah they do but now I have "super godlike almighty sapiness huge trees growing" even these drop saplings far enough out that a 5x5x4 multi block doesn't pick up. Can't blame it though the trees are massive, puts a MFR tree farm to shame, 1 fermenter running 50+ biogas engines and still creating excessive biomass.

The farms tend to have a collection radius beyond their borders, but only if the ground around the farm is on the same level as the dirt/humus/etc. My farm will grab stuff about 5 blocks from the planting edge.

Activated Coin of fortune, force pack w/ item card set to suck up saplings, stand where all the items can reach you. Place an ender chest connected to your storage/processing/whatever system. Put force pack in hand, face ender chest, tape right click down.

Also, you're going to have so many saplings from a normal mfr farm that this level of collection is ridiculously unnecessary.
