Just got into building my house for my Wooden settlement, I'm making a big two story house to save some time expanding in the future. I'm going to put CustomNPC's into my game once I have all of the housing done, hope I don't have as much problems as you did!

No update in a few days, as I've been a little busy over the weekend, and only just scratched the surface of Wood Settlement. However I've chopped down tons of trees and I've set up my house which I am very proud of. It's a little high class for such an early point in the challenge, and while I'd like the other buildings to have a Fir and Greatwood theme, it's pretty time consuming

In other news, I've chopped down 5 Silverwood trees, and Ive been careful to save the pur nodes inside the silverwood trunks. The 3 saplings I now have I can hopefully start keeping the nearby taint away. At least, It's what I intended on doing at first. The mountain biome is fairly advanced, tainted pigs and chickens are starting to help spread the purple plague and I think I'll need more than a handful of silverwood trees to clean it up. The other taint biome is pretty mild, and could be taken care of. But I might plant one tree by my house, I recently was attacked by a Wisp while finishing up a section of my roof, and it makes me wonder if the nearby Eerie biome is the cause of the attack?

I've updated my Album with more pictures of my challenge!

Hello everyone!

I have taken an extended break from this challenge - 6 months. I was doing a simplified variant to this challenge due to when I started the thread originator here was just getting started, so I modified the core City Construction Challenge rules only slightly (a single new age - Bronze). 19 episodes out, with an episode 0 'overview'.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFzLoEd0xhYvm2Tq3tlAjibrhiMQFMz8C

Anyway, I really enjoyed using the shaders and I want to keep going with this challenge, but it would be forever stuck in the 'Ultimate' pack versions of mods, and Minecraft 1.4.7.

Would you guys actually watch me finish this thing still on old mods, etc?? I haven't really been using the mods much yet anyway, but I will be here a lot more soon with the Gold stage. (I'm at the end of my added stage, the Bronze age - yes I have some additional simple rules for FtB)

If I moved away from the the Ultimate pack to the 1.6.4 packs, I could potentially McEdit my major buildings (Town Hall, Barn, Bakery/Windmill, Lumbermill, maybe the Towers and some houses) into a new world (if I found a just right spot). That would mean abandoning my city plan.

http://imgur.com/a/DJZsk

Which is quite... ambitious if I do say so. That being said, I have basically completed the Farming District! LOLs...

However, it will mean I lose the shaders, as I've tested the 1.6.4 version and it destroys my computer.. where running the 1.4.7 one was alright. =(

I don't really think I would want to start anew... but I've just gone through the difficult early stages..

Thoughts??? I'm looking for the perfect seaside village to migrate to in a Biomes 'O Plenty with ATG terrain... Prarie/Plains...

Best Regards,
~Vaal

I tried out the Ancient Warfare mod and it certainly has a ton of potential. I found it a little buggy in parts and frequently found myself wrestling with the tools to try to get specific citizens to do what I wanted them to do. Custom NPCs isn't nearly as complex, but (perhaps because I've used it longer?) it is easier for me to get villagers in place where I want them. No, they don't farm for themselves like they can in Ancient Warfare, but I wasn't looking for them to do so. Sim-U-Kraft(sp?) seems to do that rather well if I really wanted to go that route, which I don't. The combat mechanics in Ancient Warfare are pretty impressive though, if you have any aspirations to having villages lay siege to one another.

I'm currently fiddling with a modified Monster pack with a lot of the magic removed and leaning more towards the tech mods and trains. BevoLP kinda inspired the move, though I'm not entirely sold on all of the mods he included in his pack. Thus my customized Monster pack.

Please let me know your own thoughts with Ancient Warfare (or similar mods) if you test them. I'd love to hear other perspectives.

Geeze, it's kind of nuts how Feature Creep can get intimidating.....I started easing myself in by adding some scoring bits for Woodtrack, then did a bit of work on Gold City. Yes, Points are mainly defunct and won't necessarily be added in, but I may add points here and there for fun.

My main updates in Cold City were regarding Transportation, specifically Airships and Maritime vessels, and clarifying the types of roads (Pathways, Roads, Highways).

I also added a new type of Outlier. Which actually won't mean much work for me in the future.

This Outlier will be similar in most every respect to your other Outliers, except that Criminal Outliers need half the population of most Outliers, but in exchange require every single House to be a Slum (which actually gives you more population than standard).

Additional Rules (for Criminal Outliers only):

  • In every instance where an Elder or Mayor is mentioned, a member of the Crime Nobility is installed instead, usually Bosses.
  • Criminal Outliers pick a focus, just like any other Outlier. They just happen to be run by Criminals.
  • Criminal Outliers are still loyal to you, but just happen to be run by Criminals.
  • When Tribute is finally (re-)established, Criminal Outliers will pay 200% more Tribute than other Outliers in return for being left alone.
  • Criminal Outliers must choose an affiliation from the following list:
    • Bandit
    • Pirate
    • Smuggler
    • Thief
    • Assassin
  • All Criminals generated from this Outlier must live in the Criminal Outlier in Slum housing.
  • Criminals generated from this Outlier's Slum housing are considered part of the Outlier's Soldiers
    • Soldiers must still be recruited by Criminal Outliers at the standard rate
    • The Criminals are above and beyond the standard Soldier requirements.

Wow so many changes! I've been playing in the Iron Village stage for so long and I finally went and looked at the the Stone Hamlet section of the Wiki. There is so much good newness there! I'm going to think about back-adding some of the points like the Maids, Gardeners and Beekeepers and do a good read-over to see what I may have missed.

Vaal, have you tried the GLSL Shaders Mod with Sonic Ether's 10.1 preview shader? (NOT using Optifine).
I'm using it without issue with pretty much identical setup (and seed) to what you've just started and seems to run ok.
Does that shader just kill your framerate? I'm getting about 48fps with the highest settings, (fancy/far/blahblah).
And yes, the villagers have their heads! :)

So a couple more changes--I am sort of reintroducing points, except not like they were.

Before, it all went into one pool. This time, each section (as I update them) will get points.

http://refugeetoregentchallenge.wikispaces.com/Fortifications

for example.

Some people may have awesome agriculture points but low fortification points, others might have have high transportation/magic and fortification points. I was playing with this a little bit when I realized that I've already been kind of doing this with food requirements (x needs y of z).

So I made a spreadsheet for food requirements!

Hey Sensei, no I have not yet tried the 10.1 preview, I used just the various versions of 10.0, and that version unfortuantely I cannot run smoothly without optifine... which is what causes the missing head problem (issue with Optifine + Tinkers).

I will definately give that one a try tho! =) (figured it wasn't stable being 'preview', but if it works!!!)

Unfortunately I was not able to run with any version of shaders without optifine, before I even load a shaderpack just having the GLSL mod without Optifine makes my Minecraft barely run.. let alone record =(

Oh well, here is episode 02!!

As a dedicated mod? Not that I'm aware of. Maul_Junior is pretty much writing everything to the wiki, referenced on the first page.
Several talented folk (VaalDeth, The Mobius Archives, and Robert Mack to name a few) are creating YouTube Let's Play series in one form or another for it.

The challenge is kind of open ended in that you can really do it with anything from plain Vanilla MC to as modded as you like.

I'm STILL trying to work out a set of mods before I start my YouTube chronicles of the challenge.
