Yeah, sorry. I'm working on it. Although the Pokemon/GTAV launches, not to mention school and IRL drama have totally distracted me.
I feel your pain man

My suggestion would be to avoid Gregtech. It's a VERY polarizing mod, and in the future will likely become a Total Conversion Mod (Think Better Than Wolves or TerraFirmaCraft), and become quite incompatible with many other mods. Gregtech also has a few disturbing features where mod interaction is concerned, and a troubled past.
This next point tends to be argued, and is personal observation tinted with opinion.
Gregtech adds tedium. Much of his mod is simply making things more time consuming. Whether through nerfing recipe output, requiring maintenance, careful control of power, or additional crafting steps. There is new content, and his stuff might be more efficient (eventually). But it adds complexity for the sake of complexity.
The following is my personal opinion:
I have permanently banned any mod headed by GregoriousT from being used on any server I have the authority to do so upon (IC2 is fine, because Greg isn't in charge. It's a team effort which means he can't act like... well... himself). I did this based upon history. Comparisons have been made between GregoriousT and FlowerChild (of Better Than Wolves), and I feel they're apt. I will not allow Greg to break my world because someone changed something his mod does. Note that he has NEVER done this that I am aware of. The worst I've seen in practice is what happened with mDiyo's Tinker's Construct, and that was a crash before the world was even touched. But I see the way he acts, and it troubles me; enough that his projects are the only ones on my permanent ban list for Minecraft.
Actually, Blood Magic is more of a "sacrifice-based magic", not necromancy.
As far as modpacks go, Resonant Rise is the go-to for this as far as I'm concerned. Several people on the test servers are doing R2R with great success.
As one of those doing this challenge, I second this Maul, your challenge is awesome, but don't worry, TC4 is distracting me just as much as it is you, so I can see the iron stage lasting a looooong time!
Is this challenge being updated? I'd like to see what's after Iron. I'm finding the pace very interesting and fun to maintain. But I'd really like to know when things like steam boilers and venturing into the Nether take place.
