OK, I was just checking. I'm not sure if I'll get up to that point before enough 1.6 updates come out for me to switch up (at which point I'll be re-evaluating whether to do the challenge or not).

Are you planning to add GregTech's new progression system to your challenge? It is interesting how you start with the bronze(steam) age and then progress on to steel and all that. I think it would be a great addition to the challenge.

Like I said before, I've never really touched Gregtech, and it's something I'd want to play around with myself for a while before I add it in.

So at this point---maybe. I'm pretty busy atm, but I MIGHT do it. Right now I'm going to try to focus on my own progression of tech/magic. I really need to play a bit more TC4 >.<

lots to catch up on lol.

My suggestion would be to avoid Gregtech. It's a VERY polarizing mod, and in the future will likely become a Total Conversion Mod (Think Better Than Wolves or TerraFirmaCraft), and become quite incompatible with many other mods. Gregtech also has a few disturbing features where mod interaction is concerned, and a troubled past.

This next point tends to be argued, and is personal observation tinted with opinion.

Gregtech adds tedium. Much of his mod is simply making things more time consuming. Whether through nerfing recipe output, requiring maintenance, careful control of power, or additional crafting steps. There is new content, and his stuff might be more efficient (eventually). But it adds complexity for the sake of complexity.

The following is my personal opinion:

I have permanently banned any mod headed by GregoriousT from being used on any server I have the authority to do so upon (IC2 is fine, because Greg isn't in charge. It's a team effort which means he can't act like... well... himself). I did this based upon history. Comparisons have been made between GregoriousT and FlowerChild (of Better Than Wolves), and I feel they're apt. I will not allow Greg to break my world because someone changed something his mod does. Note that he has NEVER done this that I am aware of. The worst I've seen in practice is what happened with mDiyo's Tinker's Construct, and that was a crash before the world was even touched. But I see the way he acts, and it troubles me; enough that his projects are the only ones on my permanent ban list for Minecraft.

If someone makes a pack for this that would be cool.

I can run a server fr about 12 people tell me what modpack to put on then ill start adding people to whitelist. I'll whitelist around 24 because time zones....

I understand your point, however I think you should look at the new gregtech for IC2 Exp where greg actually makes IC2 easier by adding bronze machines that run on steam and having a small progression system where you go from one stage to the other. Apart from that I totally respect your opinion on being worried that he might corrupt your world.

Well, I don't like IC2 Exp, so I'm using UE in it's place (especially Mekanism) and, surprisingly enough, it's not bad!

By the way maul in 1.6 there are going to be at least 4 magic branches: Thaumaturgy(Thaumcraft 4), Aracane Magic(Ars Magica 2), Witchcraft(Witchery), Necromancy(Blood Magic, Witchery) so that will be interesting.

As far as modpacks go, Resonant Rise is the go-to for this as far as I'm concerned. Several people on the test servers are doing R2R with great success.

Now, I wish that the guidelines past Redstone Discovery were actually complete so that I could do this challenge in completeness.
EDIT: They once were complete. Then he made the wiki and the guidelines for those stages disappeared entirely.

As one of those doing this challenge, I second this :) Maul, your challenge is awesome, but don't worry, TC4 is distracting me just as much as it is you, so I can see the iron stage lasting a looooong time!

Seconding that! (Well not TC4 but soon!!!) The Iron Village opens up so much more possibility that I feel it's my sweet spot option. Right now I'm finding out if I can safely (more or less) move my village to a custom 1.6.4 without breaking everything.

Is this challenge being updated? I'd like to see what's after Iron. I'm finding the pace very interesting and fun to maintain. But I'd really like to know when things like steam boilers and venturing into the Nether take place.

He's refining the first few stages before moving on to the rest.
