Well, I want to keep a record of the progress of my current mega build...so I figured this would be a good place to do it. I'm going to keep this thread updated with new pictures as I go along.

The base of the building is 111x63, and it will be 180+ tall, so it's quite a large build...gonna take a while.

So, without further ado...here's the initial update!!!

This will be taken down as soon as I get the first floor of the building completed...there isn't much space in this shack...just a simple 9x9.

Just a few basic machines and an annoy AE system powered by solar panels so it doesn't work at night...

You can see along the back wall the stone brick, all of the holes and such you see in the floor will be filled a bit with dirt and then covered in stone brick. These two large areas are the basement of the building. Two towers will extend upwards before the top 7 floors span the two making it one building.

Nice job, this is what I call a building of mass proportions, hopefully this all goes to plan

What are you going to use for the skyscrapers? ex: windows, floors, walls etc

The bottom 3 floors are actually going to be wider than the rest of the floors, but this is the layout that I am planning for it. I actually wish I could find something a bit darker than concrete but not as dark as the other materials that are available...because this is going to need 10s of thousands of iron..but, whatever looks good must be done :)

I've updated the look of this since I create this one (can't get on to get a new screenshot right now), but it looks a lot nicer than this now. The floors are alternating between stone and concrete to give a bit of contrast, glass used will be the smooth glass seen on the left side. The inset floors will actually be surrounded by stone brick (the micro block area) instead of the stone in this picture.

What is the skyscraper going to be used for?

This is on a family friendly/family based server. So a lot of it is going to be for my automation systems (basement, mechanical floors), and the rest will be apartments for people to use/decorate/etc. I'm guessing it's going to take a few months to complete.

For a reference to the sheer size of it...the bricks needed to cover the basement floors/walls/ceiling = ~15,500 stone bricks. Each floor consists of about 11,000-13,000 blocks of differing types, not including interior walls/rooms/furnishing/AE system/stairs/etc. Going to be at least 26 floors...maybe more depending on world height (didn't measure that factor yet).

So I'm looking at about 350,000 blocks in just the structure alone, not including the actual boilers, ovens, ae system, wiring, etc. And I want to do the actual building by hand.

Very cool. Are the floors planned three thick for power?

Yes, power, lighting, security, etc. The basement will contain at LEAST 75 36HP boilers, a crap ton of coalcoke ovens, and some other stuff. There will be a HUGE AE system in place, every floor will be wired to the AE system, and there will be a server room with display panels for every item, as well as a rather large autocrafting system/setup. My eventual goal is to be able to autocraft anything in the game using AE interfaced with logistics pipes.

Cool, I would suggest something other than concrete(concrete looks to bland and like a parking garage), maybe brick or brownstone, both can be automated w/ little trouble, and w/ the brick you can make snow and obsidian, glowstone etc. if you have that mod, btw when will that server be up?

I prefer the look of the concrete out of most other things I tried, I don't want too much contrast in it, but I want a little as well...and the concrete/brick/stone mix does that for me. I don't want different colors thrown into it as I don't really like the way it looks. The contrast actually looks very nice with the updated plan I have for it...can post a picture of it in a few hours.

The server is actually online right now, but it's only open by invite for the next 2-3 weeks while I work out kinks in permissions, mod settings, etc. I will be updating my server thread with details about the server in the next few days though.

Since this is minecraft, you might want to armor the cables with some Warded Stone. If it's a family server, you might get kids who don't quite know about not breaking things. Or at least have some redundancy built in, so no one floor can accidentally cut off any other floor. Because we know how some tools go kind of ballistic when they mine things. And I believe the grey warded stone will blend in well enough to not disturb the look.

The main cables going between floors will be encased in solid warded stone, this will be a part of the stairwell, and will also be 2 main lines on each side of the building...already planned that out :) (for exactly the same reason you mentioned)

Either that, or power will be moved between floors by means of energy tesseracts...haven't made up my mind yet...probably will end up being redstone energy conduits to reduce the power loss.

Just got finished doing the basement walls/floor. I decided to go with a slab floor instead of all bricks...looks much better this way. That was a lot of stone stuff :D

Cool, how long do you think it will take to finish it?

And will you have to apply for the server?

It'll be a few months to finish it probably, and yup, it's a whitelisted application server.

While I do enjoy community builds and cooperation, this one is a solo project. Thanks for the offer though! :D
