I mean, aleveary/apairy houses may look nice, but it's been done a lot before. Try doing something completely different! A garden would look cool, as natural-looking as humanly possible.

What are your suggestions? The server I play on is resetting when Ultimate moves to 1.5, which ought to be soon enough that I need to start planning my next home.

My current thoughts are a 3x3 chunk structure, but I can't figure out how do it without looking like a giant ugly tower/cube. I'm definitely going to go pretty heavy on the bees, so I need some ideas for that.

Do a 48x48 base and use a Chicken Chunk loader. I plan on making mine a pixel = 1 block replica of the coke oven multiblock structure. Beside it will be the same thing except an alveary replica housing a bunch of alvearies for things are not renewable without bee's.

Well, you don't have to theme the building, persay. Making a garden looks nice with all the automation hidden from view. Or some kind of big house that doesn't have to be shaped. I haven't built a bee-house before, but I've seen/heard of a lot of apiary homes.

Amber bricks and upwards flowing liquid glowstone!

I've considered it, but Amber in 1.4.7 is staggeringly ugly (and see through) and the bricks don't line up with every other brick in the game. Azanor says he might change it, but have to wait for 1.5.1 update to Thaumcraft

Here's a small, 4 Alveary beesearch lab I put up in a day. My production alvearies tend to just get stacked in a single chunk somewhere to make automation cleaner.

I use some amber bricks but they're eye-searingly bright.

I can see amber as having few uses, maybe like a mosaic for floors? That'd be nice, mix it with some basalt and something else cool-looking, and *presto*! :D

like deesh?

[DOUBLEPOST=1366567982][/DOUBLEPOST]not sure about the wings...
Not sure about the wings either, but it does look nice. The connected textures mixed with the non-connected looks odd, if only there was some other material fit for the job.

Hi, here is my Stuff:

20130423_00.10.08.png

Thats the Lab from Outside

20130423_00.14.11.png

Here you see the Alvearies. It has one Mutator: (In Front, with 3 Mutator-Blocks and 11 Frame-housings automated filled with chocolate Frames) and 2 Kill-Chambers: (On the sides, the same as the mutator, with 14 chocolate-frames)

The Frames are simply put in by AE-Export-Busses

Thats another Room of my Bee-Base. Its for easy breeding drones. (I wanted to have a organic look, a little bit like a organic, maybe alien species has conquered the room) I may replace the apiaries with alvearys (then probably "sunk" in the ground and partially covered by colored wool)

greetings

I really like your alien room, has a nice creepy look.
But about your killing-alvearies: Shouldn't 7 chocolate frames be always enough for all bees to live only one cycle? One frame halves lifespan and the longest lived bee lasts 70 cycles, so (1/2)^7*70 ~ 0.54 < 1.
