Could someone describe (briefly) what's involved with automating the rolling table with pipes (or better, AE)? I've tried pumping ingredients in via pipe, but as I understand it, would need a pipe for every individual ingredient?

I also assume I'd need a rolling table per discrete component if it's a long-term automation -- right?

TIA!

It's basically (from what I understand) exactly like an automatic crafting table; if so, then just put the ingredients in a chest and pump stuff out of the rolling machine.

Usually the rolling recipes are homogenous. You first set the pattern then it'll automatically produce when the materials are available. If you left-click on the arrow, even the pattern objects will be passed through.

Don't feel bad, it's a confusing interface. Nearly as bad as the carpenter.

Once you've laid in your pattern, the rolling machine works just like a BC automatic crafting table. Pump in items and it will craft for you and the outputs can be pumped out. If you pump in too many items or the wrong sort of items they'll fill other slots in the crafting grid and screw up your pattern, but you'd have that problem with automatic crafting tables as well.

There isn't a way to automate the selecting of a different pattern (i.e. switch the rolling machine from making rails to mixed metal ingots).

EDIT: not sure if they can pull from adjacent inventories like the crafting table.

I know nothing about this feature with the Chest, but with Applied Energistics is it really easy.

The Machine in the Middle is a Rotary Macerator and right and left from it are Rolling machines.

You have to put the Recipe in the Rolling machine and give the ME Interface a Pattern with "Recipe".

One of my Machines makes Iridium alloy Ingots. I put the exact Recipe in the Rolling machine and "1 Diamond Dust, 4 Advanced Alloy, 4 Iridium" in the Pattern for the ME Interface.

The Only downside is, you have to put 1 Recipe in the Rolling machine and become nothing for it.
But Whatever, Ultra Hybrid Solarpanels with 1 Click!

Then what's the Advanced Crafting table (or whatever that laser looking thing is called) do? It's not the laser and it's not the assembly table, and the wikis like to skimp out on NerForestry information and Buildcraft information.

It's called the Advanced Crafting Table and from the buildcraft wiki page:"It is much better than the Autocrafting Table as it requires no chests and no pipes, but both would be recommended if you intend on making a lot of stuff."

Basically, it's a Xycraft fabricator that uses MJ.

Isn't the fabricator free? Like, it doesn't use any fuel?

This is true, just checked it out in a test world, so with AE for example you could serve 4 (maybe 5 but 4 is flatter) rolling machines with 1 chest/interface combo (although there will probably be issues if more than one of them wants the same resource).

Correct. In a pack with Xycraft the Advanced Crafting Table is superfluous.
I actually think the Advanced Crafting Table is cooler because it requires more work. If they didn't make it require obsidian, and Xycraft's new power system powers fabricators, I'd rather use the Crafting Table. There's just something cool about lasers.

I will assume, since you are using AE, that you already have the Molecular Assembly chamber attached to your all-in-one storage complex, however you made it. first, encode a blank pattern with 3 refined iron, 3 copper, and 3 tin as your crafting recipe, and force your output to be a mixed metal ingot. Put the encoded pattern in your chamber. Go to your rolling machine, and make sure the internal pattern is the one used for mixed metal ingots. Make an ME Interface, place it above your rolling machine, place an import bus attached to the side of your rolling machine, attach both to your AE network, power the rolling machine, and there you go. Done. Go to your access terminal, and you should be able to see the mixed metal ingot as craftable. In short, the interface takes the crafting recipe (iron, copper, tin), sends it into the rolling machine, where it crafts the mixed metal ingot, and then pulls it out with the input bus. If I didn't explain it well, tell me, and I'll make a video later.

Thanks for all the pointers -- I tried putting the interface on the side previously, not the top and it didn't seem to work. Jerome's clear explanation worked just as he described though. :)

Thanks again!

Assuming you mean Rolling Machine ... I have mine hooked up to my AE system for making Mixed metal ingots (MMI).

You hook it up just like any other machine, ME Interface on top with recipe in it for MMI but since the Rolling Machine *holds* onto to the last production line and waits for a click to start it you need to have the rolling machine already contain the recipe.

Either that or request extra when crafting through the AE system although I haven't tried that (but will now and post back).

Edit - nope doesn't work without the Rolling Machine pre-prepped with the recipe.
