Apparently, forestry now adds arboriculture of sorts. Treenalyzers, saplings have data like bees do, and a whole bunch of talk about it on the forums. The problem, the wiki has absolutely zero info on it at all. Anybody know where I can find this information? I put some trees into the analyzer, got some cool information, but I have no clue how to breed them.

I remember reading something along these lines somewhere in a forum post (ie, I don't know how reliable that info is).

Apparently what you need to do is plant trees and place bees nearby, some leaves might turn into other over time or something and saplings can also turn into different trees. I'm not sure exactly, but I remember they key things was bees + trees. I don't remember if it have to be any specific trees or bees though.

I believe TheYoHanSolo on the minecraft forums has added Tree Breeding to his Bee Breeding guide. Here's a link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic...rs-permissiontreebreeding-update/page__st__80
EDIT: Note that it is not completely fleshed out and has only two mutations at the time I'm writing this :/

I think that's the post I was talking about :D

The basic thing you have to do though is have bees near trees. Leaf blocks will change over time and can drop saplings from new types of trees. You can then plant those trees of course and get even more different ones as well.

To me it seems to be less exact of a science than the bee breeding though, but still lots of fun ^^ And some of those new trees really look pretty cool.

Yeah basically you plop down trees, get new saplings, plop them down, etc. until you get what you're after. Try to have a diverse group of trees I guess. I agree with the post above me in saying it's not an exact science. I think its more like something fun to do while breeding bees.

Actually, that reminds me: do Forestry Arboretums handle arboricultured trees properly? The old wiki mentions 'vanilla trees and rubber trees only' but now...

I mean, obviously that sort of setup wouldn't let you ripen fruit, but if you want saplings for biomass instead....

Quoted from SirSengir on Minecraft Forums:

There are no plans to make the new trees useable in the old farms. The new multiblock farms will support them natively though.

Hmm... So he is putting in new multiblock structure (multiblock meaning like the coke oven or blast furnace devices) farms. Interesting.

Strictly speaking, the Alveary is a multiblock structure, innit? ;)

I can only imagine what it'll take to make this one though... maybe some of the new woods?

I wish modders would stop with these "multi-block-structures" which are just a single machines with a single big complicated GUI and a single use. Might as well have been single blocks, it's the same thing, just inflated, and not very aesthetically pleasing. I'd much rather see small blocks which have a single simple function and a great variety of uses. Take the piston for example. Or redstone torch.

Redstone torch: powers redstone, or inverts a signal given to the bloc it is on.
Not exactly a block that have many uses by itself...

While I understand your point, I think there are already plenty of single block machines that you could use to do nearly everything.

I personally do like the fact that Forestry is now adding a single machine to do the wok of both, even if that means having to use a multi block structure.

You are completely free to use just parts of the mods, they just give you tools, you are still free to play even vanilla while having all those mods.
My point is that you can use what you prefer to build what you want, that's what Minecraft is about, right? Mods just add more complex machines and stuff to play and experiment with, and let the players use them in the way they want.

I have to agree with this. It's mainly Gregtech that irritates me with this, probably because its not widespread in other mods yet. I didn't mind it when it was just the coke oven and the blast furnace and whatnot, but when EVERY SINGLE high tier machine is a massive ugly 3x3x3 cube of blank machine blocks that I have to build enormous rooms for, it gets annoying. I like my row of machines, the texturing tends to be much nicer when its just one block. Also, multiblock structures, although this has been "fixed" by Greg, generate more lag than a simple block. Going with what Poppycocks said, there aren't really multiblock functional structures in vanilla either. Furnaces, crafting tables, dispensers, they are all machines that take up one block. Just my two cents on the subject.
