So - I want to, for example - Have a storage disk, that has Sand, cobble, stone and obsidium. Now I would like to have it so, that when it has x amount of cobble, it stops accepting anymore, even though there's space on the storage disk - and sends it to the second best place (Which in this case would be a relay with a lava blob on top.

How do i lay waste, to this problem? Any help is appreciated, also tips on AE is greatly appreciated :)

Level emitter, export bus. When X amount of stone, then emit signal on export bus that only works when it has a signal

The simplest method and cheapest in several ways is to just use a single pre-formatted disk for each type of bulk material.

If you use the lowest disk it will store 8128 of the item. Normally it would then fill up your non formatted disks, but if you put the item in the filter for a storage bus to an incinerator/recycle whatever you like then all extras will go to the storage bus and not to non-formatted storage.

In this way your level limit is locked at whatever disk size you use -- so you have less control over that, but you only need one storage bus for I think 54 items.

ME drives and lowest disks gets cheaper vs an emitter + export bus for each item.

I agree with that... large disks dedicated for a single bulk type.

because I ran into a really stupid problem: no preformatted disks and they were fairly small ones: if one disk is full, and has as one of these items cobblestone, then the second disk would not take any cobblestone, even if there is free diskspace.

so, now I have enough quarz to make some disks, I'll work with preformatted max-sized disks... everything else is just a waste of ressources.

Question, can you modify pre-formatted disks to format them to add something else in, after you've already done it before?

yes you can add more items at any time

i store all bulk stuff in DSUs with storage bus that way i can keep all the cobble i want seeing as DSU can hold 2 billion of a item it will never fill fully

You don't waste any resources making smaller disks as you can upgrade them when you have enough materials to make more. Put a disk in your hand and shift-click to pop the storage unit out.

I use peppe's method for bulk single item storage, 8128 cobble etc is enough for me, and having 10x 8128 in a single block pleases me, for main storage I have 1 unformated 16k in a chest and several preformatted 16k in an me drive, I upgrade the 16k's to 64's as I can afford it, copying the preformatting and using an IO port to quickly transfer to the larger disk.
