So, I play and watch many LPs. Playing the mindcrack pack plus a few extra mods that should be standard (additional pipes, logistic-pipes ect). I see everyone and their mother using the mining drills. Me, being a hobo using normal diamond picks finally gets around to a wiki to see what all the hubbub is about. Looks cool and can be used as a shovel too. Cool! One less thing to carry and swap to in my inventory, right? I learn that these things need to be charged the equivalent of 17~ times to get as many blocks mined as a normal pick.
wat.
So let me get this right, now I need to get a lappack? So there goes my extra inventory slot. Now I need to swap the lappack out with my jetpack when I want to mine? There goes my 'less swapping' perk. By the time you have the sort of supplies needed to make this, the usefulness in the very early stages is already gone. Why do people use this piece of crap that seems like its just a huge hassle for saving 3 diamonds every 17 recharges (and thats just vs a normal pick, let alon one with unbreaking). I rather spend the 3 diamonds than have to run around recharging or swaping lappacks like a crazed blood thirsty monkey.
All in all I think this thing needs something better done with it. I'd say give it a solar upgrade! But then, its a fscking pick, you wont be seeing that much sun. But how about this; engineered upgrades? As in a 2x2 inventory inside it where you can insert upgrades to either 1. speed up the mining (have 3 levels of this, each more expensive than the last, and the last being very expensive but as fast as efficiency V) 2. extend the internal battery, having three versions of the upgrade that extend it 4x, 8x and finally the most expensive being 16x the default EU storage. 3. Looting/Fortune/Silktouch. Each of the four slots would stack upto 5 of the same upgrade except the looting/silk/fortune upgrades.
Why do this instead of just use the enchanting system? Because why use mods at all? Why use this drill if it doesn't allow any special manual configurations that you can remove and customize like a real engineer would? This think needs to be cool, and right now its lame.
