If you want super efficient strip mining, take a diamond drill, a diamond jackhammer, and a silk touch pick. The jackhammer clears stone as fast as the diamond drill does dirt.

As Dragonfel said for strip mining, the advanced diamond drill will take care of the dirt and gravel..
