1.7 modpack performance

your reply reminded to check again. i just tried dark trilogy v 1.0.8 (i was using 1.0.4 i believe) It is much better, but journeymap is really eating my framerate. i turned all the polling under advanced to 5-10 seconds and it is playable ..but only just. Zooming all the way in on the minimap makes it better as well but kind of defeats the purpose. I may try switching back to a reasonable mini-map later.

For resurrection, i was using 1.0.0. it appears 1.0.1 is available but not recommended. It still has this issue.

I've also tried running red 2 vampire money. It runs great, but doesn't have a minimap .. also it has a lot of chunk rendering errors for some reason (have to f3-a continuously while walking around). I am not sure if that is part of the insanity mechanic or not. Also too many blood moons. 3 friggen nights in a row...

as far as load times go for the 1.7 modpacks. Still slow as molasses...

Also, I've noticed that the fps counter in might not be accurate. running red is showing 10-22fps, but it feels smooth. it feels like at least 40. In fact, it always seems to be the same value as the chunk updates.. wonder if someone moved a variable getter or something..

also also, I've noticed that the root.tick is spending about 80% of its time on "textures". No clue if that is normal in 1.7. Switching texture packs doesnt change this.

Don't know if this matters but my performance was pretty crappy depending on what texture packs I was running and that's w/ a 4770k/r9 290. Are you running the vanilla textures, Soartex? I'm running Sphanx x64 w/ an infinity patch. I remember 'thinking' it was a texture pack problem because the CPU usage was very minor so I started yanking some textures from the patch. But round the same time, they released 1.0.1 so ... who knows.

I just tried infinity myself and find it runs like a dream (well compared to others...) I had to return my AMD R9 290 and I am now running an nvidia gtx 970. This is the first card I've seen where ENABLING advanced OpenGL gave me a substantial performance boost. (from 20fps to 40-50). Then again this is my first nvidia card since 2000 or so... When i switched to fast graphics (from fancy) i can get 50fps pretty easy. I still get "server running behind" and "tick took too long" messages in console when there is world gen going on, but Ive had that since monster/unleashed days and have gotten used to telling the server that "im exploring ..dont go dangling over any lava pits or reconfiguring your IC2 machines".

I will note that I've never seen anything this close to 60fps in any mod pack on my machine. Then again I'm the sole user at the moment and i don't have any machines yet.
