Pack code:SkyMyst [FTB & Curse]

This pack was designed to be moderately challenging.

The terrain generation is floating islands over void and doesn't extend below
y=30; so there is no redstone, diamonds or gold (except the rare gold gravel) in
the overworld. You need to go to the Nether for nether ores to get these.

The terrain also has few caves so mob spawning can be quite intense.
The pack does have "Special Mobs" but those are blacklisted in the overworld as
that would be overpowered. They'll be most prevalent in the RFTools dimensions.

The number of mods was limited partly to prevent players from "cherry picking" taking
the easy parts of different mods and ignoring the more difficult.

Different seeds will influence the early game in different ways; often significantly.
From mob spawning, to mining, what food is available - practically every
aspect of the early game is affected. This, I think, makes this pack very easy
and enjoyable to play more than once.

Now on to the silliness.

A theory has been put forth that the world that we once knew and loved could be recreated using what little technology we have been able to recover from the devastation.

But who has the skills, the tenacity and fortitude to accomplish a task of this magnitude? Will it be YOU?

Author's Note:
The terrain is randomly generated. This will result in a different playing experience from one seed to the next. Some seeds may result in character death upon spawning and loss of the starting inventory (the jetpack!). In this circumstance it's best to quit to title and create a new world.

Also, carefully consider the "y" coordinate you place the portal to the Blackstone Dimension because it will be the same in that dimension as where you create it. Hint: sea level is y=64.

1.1.5 Updated mods that were crashing the pack

1.1.4 Updated mods

1.1.3 Added EnderIOAddons and replaced ttcore with EnderCore. And, updated supporting mods.

1.1.2 Removed Modular Systems mod as it caused crashes, the mod author seems to have abandoned it, and it wasn't necessary for quest completion. Set Aroma backup to every 30 minutes (anyone who thinks that's too often can easily edit the config file - look in the config folder for aroma1997/AromaBackup.cfg)

1.1.1 Removed legacy mod and minor config tweaking

1.1.0 - Fixed progression breaking bug - block to create portal to "Blackstone dimension" changed from metallurgy steel to tinkers' steel and the item was changed from prometheum sword to steel pickaxe. The quest book was changed to reflect this.

- another legacy mod was removed.

- configuration file tweaking

1.0.1 - A complete rewrite of the informational text to make clear the progression for finding resources. Included the RFTools guide for dimensions in the players starting inventory. Fixed ExtraTiC so now Metallurgy is available for Tinkers' tools. Added a button to the main menu that opens the SkyMyst forum thread in a browser. Updated mods. Removed legacy mods.

THIS POST IS OUTDATED AND REFLECTS A PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE MODPACK. ALL ISSUES IN THIS POST HAVE BEEN RESOLVED OR CHANGED. I WILL BE MAKING A VIDEO ON THE REVIEW OF THIS MOD FOR LATER USE.

I am keeping this post here as a legacy post, since it was also quoted by others in discussion of the pack. This pack is pretty good and has an author that jumped right onto the issues that I had, which says a lot.

~Damien Darkside

This mod-pack has amazing potential. Really it does. The land generation is completely unique and Metallurgy 4 isn't in a ton of other packs. I especially love how there are "islands" where you are more drawn to the massive lands they can provide, and of course the ores that are inside.

There are a number of issues holding it back which is why I have held off on making a video review of the modpack.

My main criticisms of the pack are as follows:

1) [MOST IMPORTANT] Ore generation needs to be tweaked, along the "more" side. Unless the ore generation in NEI is lying, vanilla ores (gold, diamond) are not tweaked to a world that has most of it's stone at 70-40. Making sure you can actually get gold for Agmallen (Alloyer) or Diamonds for the TiC Tools. Using the Ore Finder from Metallurgy detects all ores and with a long time I couldn't get any gold/diamonds.

2) [Secondary] Extra TiC is not covering Metallurgy metals. Either find a way for the tool parts to be used, or go the completely other route and take TiC out. This way there are reasons to go to the "islands" that have

3) HQM - Sure your book teases that we don't have HQM, but I think this would be fantastic here. I don't personally know or use RFTools, especially on the dimension-building side. Maybe there is another way to get diamonds or gold, that would be good for HQM. There is the easily paths to take like TiC or Metallurgy for collection quests etc. The multiple steps required for the RFT end-goal would especially benefit from this.

4) Professionalism - This is only is you really want this to take off (and I assume you want it to since you messaged my thread). It isn't a huge thing, but removing "lol" and other minor changes within the book you have released. A tips section would definitely be helpful and a more organized end-goal. The last page about Obsidian is completely off-mark and should be changed completely. Also look for more alternatives to getting obsidian, which you can reward with in a HQM book as a last resort.

5) Ex Nhilo - This would probably help with issues regarding the lack of not only clay, but also lava generation as well. This way you don't have to resort to nasty little tricks and whatnot to get lava. There is also the benefit of Skyblock players getting other seeds and such that you can add in! Pam's HC seeds mixed in would be a good use of time and resources.

===============================================

As I have said your pack has loads of potential, but at the moment has some flaws that need to be addressed. I will add to the top of my post if these are tweaked, so people don't get the wrong impression from this post a month from now when this is changed.

I agree with literally everything that Damien has said. I think this pack is going places and has tons of potential to be amazing. You're on the right track, but like Damien said, there's a few things that should be tweaked. I am totally backing this project, and I would love to put some sort of video on my channel about it, but I feel it needs to be updated a little more before that happens. As stated above, fixing ore generation and possibly adding ex nihilo would definitely do this pack justice. I did find the book's jokes about hqm quite entertaining. However if you aren't going to use it, I feel like you need more of a definite goal, and a more detailed explanation of how to reach said goal. The above post said you should also include a dash more professionalism in your book. I agree, but don't take out the jokes and the playful personality. A little more information should be added, and in turn so should organization. Other than those few tweaks that could probably be finished within a day or two, I think this pack has a lot of potential. I'd definitely like to see this project progress to a more playable state in the near future, it's certainly something I could see myself playing. :D

Red_Treasure & Damien Darkside thank you guys so much. This is exactly what I needed.

It's the book! I didn't think about the expectations of the reader. I spent so much time working on the gold, diamond, redstone and clay problems that; by the time I got to writing the book; to me the solutions seemed obvious. They aren't at all, and the vague hints in the book are not helpful. As Minecraft players we have certain expectations of vanilla mechanics and if pack developers mess with that they need to bend over backwards to make sure we know what is going on. I didn't do that and I apologize.

I kinda feel like a dummy. Not looking at things from the players point of view is my big criticism of most HQM packs. Some devs do it right, but many do not.

I am going to fix this ASAP and I'll take a look at the ExtraTiC. I just assumed that was working. I haven't had much of a chance to play the pack since I put Metallurgy in.

Glad to hear you're not completely shot down by the comments haha, you're not dumb, you just overlooked a few things, no biggy. :p
If you're ever looking for somebody to help out with a few favors I'd be happy to assist by the way, I think you've got a great set of ideas here. Keep up the good work. :D

Red_Treasure & Damien Darkside The pack is updated. The book has a detailed explanation, with pictures, on how to get to the Nether where there are nether ores - giving the player the resources they need to progress and some hints have been added. The RFTools guide to dimensions has been added to the players starting inventory. ExtraTiC has been corrected, and now Metallurgy works with Tinkers'. Thanks again to both of you for your feedback.:)

And we have a new character:

Heyo! That's indeed a pretty awesome terrain generation!
Can you tell me how you made this? I don't want to steal your idea, it would be just for some personal modpack testing etc..
But I would understand if you want to keep that secret :D

I like the new book more than the one from version 1.0.0, good job! ;)

Found one bug/crash/whatever:
Everytime I click on the Modular System tab in the creative menu minecraft crashes, here the crashlog:

But either way, nice modpack! I guess I will play a bit more, although there could be more mods inside, in my opinion (I'm more a kitchensink fan, but that's just me =) )

[SNIP]....
But either way, nice modpack! I guess I will play a bit more, although there could be more mods inside, in my opinion (I'm more a kitchensink fan, but that's just me =) )

The terrain generation was the inspiration. When I discovered it I had so much fun I felt guilty not sharing it - so I made a pack around it. There are two ways, that I know of, to get basically the same terrain: 1) The easy way as a player is to use Ted's Mods "Fun World Gen" and set the world generation to "Skylands Dimension". 2) The way it's done in "SkyMyst" is with the mod Dimensional Controls, which also has the dependency BNBGamingLib. This method takes a lot of tweaking of the config file. A lot! Or, you could just use the config from "SkyMyst" - I really wouldn't mind if people made packs using my config, there's room for a dozen or more packs built around it. It would just mean more packs for me to play.:)

I'm pretty sure the crash is a mod problem. I don't know that Modular Systems is the best coded mod but I like the storage system it provides and, in this pack, it gives the player a way to make sand.

As to how few mods there are in the pack? That's part of the challenge. Know the mods and use them to their fullest. I think big packs have their place, but I'd also like to see more small focused packs too.

I'm glad you like the pack and thanks for saying so. Come by anytime!

Hi Tigerlore, The pack so far looks awesome. However when you generate the world you don't spawn on land and end up falling through the void. Items are lost. As a work around I generated a world using creative and found that I spawned in the last block and would've fallen yet again if not for creative flight. I suggest you fix the world spawnpoint.

I have uploaded a youtube video to my channel, its not very long as its a quick look into the pack.

But I definitely think this will be a new series on my channel.

Keep up the good work.

The terrain is randomly generated and sometimes players spawn over void. There is no fix for this, just create a new world. It might take a couple of tries, but most worlds work fine.

I'd love it if you'd give me a link to your channel so I can post your video on the thread here.:)

Hi Tigerlore,

Second episode is up.

For some reason in the Blackstone dimension the nether portal doesn't work.

Nor is there a way to get back to the previous world.

Any pointers?

Wow, what bad luck you had. It was the sand that messed things up for you. There is a portal back to the overworld where you spawned into the Blackstone dimension, you just missed it because of the problems you had with the sand. Nether portals only work in the overworld (dimension=1) and the Nether (dimension=-1). The Blackstone dimension is dim 22 - the way you got there is the way back, you just need to find it again. Good luck and have fun.:)

So I finally manage to find stuff to make steel. Make a steel block and a Tinkers' steel pick. Place block and right click and nothing. Realize maybe pick should not be a tinkers' pick. Off to try to find more lava. Finally make steel pick and right click on block. Again nothing.

Noticed there was an update...was something changed? Changelog?

So, it's a Tinker's steel block and a Metallurgy steel pick, right? Like the pictures in the book?
Sorry, forgot about the changelog. It's nothing that affects the main quest, just some clean up.

Do you have anything to the right of the pick on your hotbar? The pack has a mod that let's any tool from vanilla or other mods place blocks and torches like tinkers' tools, that's why I ask.

Have you added or removed mods? You did spawn into a world of islands floating over the void, right?

Post a screenshot of what you are doing. Maybe I'll be able to figure it out from that.
