Update on my previous post regarding coil block heating - this is a little strange after some further testing. Tungsten, a material with a 3000K required heat, normally takes 600 seconds/ingot to create. My Blast Furnace with HSS-G coils (5400K heat capacity), which should give me one overclock to reduce the time to 25% of normal, correctly reduced tungsten's creation to 150 seconds upon timing. But tungstensteel, with the exact same 3000K required heat and 150 second creation time per 2 ingots, still took the full 150 seconds to make. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Hi all - New to InfiTech here - I started a server with a couple of friends and everything is going well except we are unable to open crates with the crowbar. We progressed to the unpackager and that is not working either. I am able to do both of these on a single player world with no issue. Does anyone know the source of this issue? I tried opping myself but that did not work either, and I cannot find any relevant information in the configuration files. The recipe is visible and clickable but it immediately cancels out and reverts to the crate right after clicking. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Hopefully you've gotten your answer elsewhere by now, but in case you haven't:

Processing time isn't related to the heat capacity of the coils. Either you have enough heat capacity to do the recipe or you don't. (See edit below for exception.)

Overclocking the EBF is done by upgrading the Energy Hatch. Tungsten Dust -> Tungsten Ingot, which is an MV recipe, takes 600 seconds at 120EU/t. Upgrading to an HV Energy Hatch, that same recipe should take 300 seconds @ 480 EU/t, or upgrading to an EV Energy Hatch should change to 150 seconds @ 1920 EU/t.

The recipe Tungsten Ingot + Steel Ingot -> 2 Tungstensteel Ingots is an HV recipe, meaning that with an HV energy hatch it takes 150 seconds @ 480EU/t, or with an EV hatch, 75 seconds @1920EU/t.

For any GT recipe (and this applies to multiblocks as well), overclocking a recipe to a higher tier multiplies the EU/t consumed by 4 (a 32EU/t LV recipe becomes 128 EU/t in an MV machine, for example) and doubles the total energy required. This results in the recipe finishing in half the time, but it is completing less efficiently because you still spent twice the amount of power on finishing it.

EDIT, revisited for information correction after Nightfire's post: Except after GT5u 5.09.27, in which case if you have 1800K over the required heat you get the full 4x speed for the first overclock.

From the Blast Furnace tooltip:

"Each 1800K over the min. heat capacity allows for one upgraded overclock. Upgraded overclocks reduce recipe time to 25% and increase EU/t to 400%."

I knew about the overclocking of normal machines changing EU/t and speed, but maybe I've just been misinterpreting this tooltip. My understanding was that if it was an HV recipe, then if it overclocked it would instead consume 4A of HV power instead of 1A to do the recipe (in order to effectively consume 4x the power), but it would keep the voltage at the same tier as the original recipe. From what you're telling me, it instead transforms it into whatever voltage 4x the required EU/t would make it? If that's the case, then I do indeed need an EV energy hatch to deal with the 1920EU/t consumption of the overclock for tungstensteel, and that information is quite welcome.

EDIT: @Navarin - thank you so much! That was the problem - I switched to an EV hatch and battery buffer, and tungstensteel now takes approximately one minute to get my first ingot, roughly 38 seconds for the production and another 18 in the freezer per ingot. I really appreciate the clarification, and I'll have to remember this for future recipes if it comes up again.

It's been a while since I played; I didn't remember that the heating coils reduced processing time instead of just reducing overall EU required to achieve the efficiency parity. Sorry for the confusion, that's why my post didn't quite match what you were seeing.

You seem to have figured it out (yay!), but to answer the question anyway: You are correct, overclocking requires 1A of a higher voltage (1920EU/t, in this case), not 4A of the same voltage. That's (the Energy Hatch tier) how the machine knows which recipe to use.

It's me again... I've got a quartet (only two active so far) of Netherminds that I'm using to summon lava, and it is a bit of an undertaking to be able to produce essentia for all that!

So I got the charcoal and the primordial pearl, but I can't work out how to put the charcoal into the top of the Furnace. It works quite well when I manually drop in four stacks of charcoal at a time, but when I tried to put a grate in the top, I got mixed results. A hopper into the grate wouldn't do anything, and Item Conduit into the grate only spileld charcoal everywhere - I don't think it got any actually IN the furnace!

I'm also concerned about wasting charcoal. Is there a way to get it to jam when full? I tried putting a wooden pressure plate in the furnace to close a grate one block above, but I couldn't place the pressure plate.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to make this work? Also do you have any advice for running rows of centrifuges?

Nevermind - I worked out that if the grate is one block above the opening of the furnace, then it will work correctly with a vanilla hopper.

I also worked out that a comparator will work, but only when aimed at one of the four output sides of the furnace. I ended up using a remote comparator for compactness.

wont let me edit The other for like "profanity" or something. hmm. Anyway heres another angle, showing all four netherminds active, though even with just two active it was soaking up all the essentia I had.

Are inert silver wand caps craftable?

The quest book says it's the same as copper caps, but the recipe doesn't work. NEI doesn't show a recipe either.

They are, but you have to make sure to research them first, and possibly need to craft them with vis at the arcane crafting table. Don’t recall 100% (not at computer) but have definitely crafted them awhile back. Then you activate them via the crucible with essentia.

Hi! I've got a trouble with Infitech 2, when i launch modpack the console shows many strings then launcher closes and then shows again and nothin happens. But FTB modpacks works correctly.

I'm almost done with the Bronze Age. I built almost all the machines, except the bronze plated blast furnace. I think I'm gonna skip it, I've been using transmutation to make steel. The furnace just doesn't seem worth the time (one furnace will apparently give me a whopping 10 steel ingots per real life hour). I'm going to build a thaumcraft steel factory instead. I've been using the basic crucible to transmute metal so far, slowly transitioning to damascus steel equipment.

I like the progression speed in this pack, it balances its own pacing very well with building. In some packs the progression speed is so fast, that there's little point in building anything. Here, I need how much steel to do what??? Yeah, that's not happening. I'm building a house first.

It does work with FTBlauncher.
You are providing wrong log file; you gotta show minecraft's log, not FTBlauncher's.
And lastly, hide this text walls behind spoiler tag.

Anyone know what causes this darkness despite the torches? It persists no matter what. It goes away sometimes if I leave the area and let the chunks reload, but this spot isn't getting fixed.

I've just ported the pack to MultiMC, maybe that's the reason?
