Hi there, your water tanks cause a significant amount of WorldRenderer updates. An example trace:

I'm guessing this is to frequently redraw the water level. Could you consider perhaps a hybrid block/TESR renderer for these? I'm using a large number of irrigation channels and sprinklers, and those aren't causing issues at all, but the 3 blocks in my water tank ( a single layer 1x3) is causing a huge amount FPS drop. (FPS drops from around 100-120 to 23-30 for me)

We are aware of this and afaik it was fixed by splitting up the rendering in discrete levels to reduce the number redraws, like @nimO said, but apparently something still causes issues. Will have to look at it

Secondly, I assume this is intended and it kind of makes sense, but breaking AgriCraft tanks producing water source blocks in their place is fairly annoying.
It is annoying and it was meant to be annoying, however as for most things in this mod, there is a config option.

I have a question, I am not sure this is the right place, but I can't find it anywhere, what do Growth, and EDIT:Gain(I am half asleep), and Strength do on a plant?

are there perhaps any further plans for additions to the mod? I don't know if there are already, but for example there could be food added by the mod, which could for example be added through configurations.
you could add recipes through configurations and also configure how much saturiation it'd give and perhaps even images of the food. I'm not completely sure, but there may be a mod that also does something similar, which allows you to add your own food through the mod using configurations. perhaps there could also be a block that allows you to create the food instead of a simple crafting recipe. the block could use certain items or tools to be able to create the food.

you could also perhaps add a way of generating power by using the crops. you could breed towards a certain crop species that's able to produce power, and you could be able to breed these crop species further so they're able to become even better at producing power, and there could be several blocks that can be used to generate power from these crops. I was thinking of perhaps something similar to how ender io has the power generation.
one block to simply burn the crops, another block that uses liquid created from crops to produce power and another block that uses both liquid and items to produce power.

now this power should also be used for the mod, which you could use for other blocks, like for example a harvester to harvest the crops, or a block that can fight against any weeds like the crop-matron from IC2, which you can supply with power, water and perhaps some sort of weed-ex to kill any weeds that pop up. you would also need blocks that'd be used to process the crop resources so you're able to use them for other machines such as the power generation blocks or for creating food or weed-ex.

there could also be a block that can be used for cross-breeding crops together. with this block you can provide 2 types of crop seeds, power, water and weed-ex and it'll cross-breed the crops for you with a higher chance of getting better results. though if you do not use weed-ex there's a high chance the crop will become weed, and if you do not provide enough of power and water constantly, the crop will die and become weed aswell.

you could also have a portable seed anaylzer which is a combination of the seed analyzer and the magnifying glass and requires power to work. with this item you no longer need to break new cross-breeded crops or other crops to analyze them. you could also have some sort of advanced agriculte journal block which could be paired with this new item, any informtion it registers gets send to this block, and this block could be used to find out more information about crops, such as for example which biomes you may be able to find these crops, what conditions they need to be able to grow the best and so on.

but this is just me rambling about some ideas that I also had way back when crops were introduced in IC2, but I don't know what direction you intend to take with the mod so I thought it wouldn't hurt if I were to post some ideas.

- Can you elaborate on that "food creating block"? I assume you're talking about things like a TConstruct pan or a Harvestcraft presser?
- Like PVZ sunflowers? It can be a fun thing but it is not very realistic and won't make it into AgriCraft, I'm sorry.
- Ways to fight weeds will be introduced in the industrial irrigation system where you can add additives to the water. This system will require power (if a power mod is present) or high clocked redstone signals (if no power mod is present)
- A harvester is planned but still only in concept, there are a few other things being worked on right now that have priority. Also it will not be one of those "place-a-single-block-win-the-game-machines"?
- The thing about the seed analyzer is that it analyzes the seeds, and analyzing seeds while they are underground is quite strange isn't it. It has been suggested before and everytime I consider it I always end up not doing it for the same reason: it takes away half of the effort of breeding a good seed. I realise that a 10,10,10 seed is quite OP and the only thing that balances it is the long road to aquiring one.

Thank you. It always makes me feel horrible when I remove a bunch of conflicting equivalent recipes. I don't need 14 different bread recipes :(

it wouldn't add alternative recipes for vanilla food, it'd rather add new types of food which are combinations of crops and recources. with vanilla crops it wouldn't add that many types of food, but when combined with for example pam's harvestcraft you could have this block use most of the crafting from the types of food from pam's

that sounds pretty interesting, a single block is easy and usually also more efficient, but I love me some cool looking multiblock structures.

understandable, though I wasn't thinking of it being something early or mid game, it'd have to be something really end game where you're at a point where you just want to collect every crop possible and have them at the highest stats. though I can understand it'd be kind of difficult to implent, having most recipes require just a few sticks and such and suddendly having a recipe that'd require nether stars and diamond blocks.

neat idea, but I think this would fit better into a standalone mod.

This is up to the modpack maker, for instance In my pack I have it set up that you have to struggle trough quite some things before you get access to rf, and if you choose magic you don't get access to it at all.
I don't like it when mods tie down their content to where the modder wants it, the lag of configurability causes incompatabilities or OP mod combos. This is one reason why I don't understand the FTB-staff chose to put AgriCraft in Infinity, AgriCraft requires quite some attention to the config files in order to fit into a mod pack that's why it doesn't play nicely in kitchen sink packs. Don't get me wrong I'm flattered they put it in there, but I don't understand why, but I don't want to go offtopic so I'll leave it to this.

Yea single blocks are more efficient performance wise, but it is more fun to build a structure then just placing more blocks down. And it is also more challenging for me and (mostly) @nimO to optimise the code (as seen in the tanks).

I might come back to this when all the planned features are implemented.

Yes, we're using version 1.2.2. Skimming the code, it looks like you send an update whenever the level changes, regardless of whether that gives you a different visual level or not. This apparently still causes it to rerender the whole chunk section.

Ok I see what's happening, we're only checkign if the level changed when updating from the updateTick method. I've centralised everything and cleaned up some duplicate calls. This will probably improve performance a bit, but if you're still experiencing issues I'll dig deeper.

EDIT: it bumped my FPS in my (with tanks & channels littered) test world from 50 to 80

Can i use decimals? Like 0.05 or 0.005? in my tests, is soooooo easy to get a 10-10-10, i want to decrease the chance of evolution.

I'm not sure, I think you can, but that chance is just when a spread occurs to determine if it is a mutation or not. If you want to make it harder to cross seeds, enable weeds.

Are you aware of the problems with ic2 flax?(and i am guessing other 2 block high plants)

(also, i have so many weeds in mah garden ;-; )

Ye, first they render the bottom half and when theyre mature they only render the top half. It's something i've ignored for now as it is just rendering and there are more relevant issues atm.

(and working as intended =p)

what i mean is that on crops they don't seem to grow past the one block stage, when off the crops they do just fine.

also, it appears that using the chromaticraft tile accelerators removes the need for a water supply(also in pic) :p

EDIT: it works even without the accelerators o.0

How many crops does IC2 have? If it's only one I can do a silly workaround, if they have multiple I'll have to probably add it to my workspace s:
