GT turbines are supposed to return 10mB/t of water while running constantly.

Note that you DO need to run a GT turbine at max rate (1600 mB/t) and constantly or it will lose efficiency drastically.

0.63%: that's not far off from my 0.5% eyeball calculation. Pretty disappointing considering RoC's turbines return 100%.

That is because GT uses the 160steam:1water ratio of RC boiler.
I don't follow you, but ok :)

Is this configurable? Water in should more or less equal water out. If I create create 1 water with 160 steam, I should in theory be creating 160 steam with one water, which I can't imagine is the case.

Where do I start..

I'm not sure if you realize what steam is - it's heated water in gaseous form. Water is turned into steam in a boiler, and then is outputted somewhere. You don't expect to get just as much water as you put in PLUS the steam, do you? :)

tsk tsk Aiwendil, what a tone :)

You started in an excellent place. Where do you suppose the water went to?

The turbine has two options. It can, theoretically, vent it arbitrarily (in which case you're right, we'll experience considerable loss), or it can allow the steam to condense, in which case our gaseous form of water gradually reverts to its liquid state (given earth's temperature and pressure.) or we force it to.

330px-Rankine_cycle_layout.png

1-2: water pumped into high pressure
2-3: water boiling into steam
3-4: steam creating power; partial condenstation
4-1: water condensed, ready to cycle again (loop closed)

Yes, if I put water into a steam-producing mechanism, and that steam is sent to a turbine, and the turbine does not arbitrarily vent into the atmosphere, I do expect to recover my water at a substantially better rate than 0.64%.

The image above represents the rankine cycle. The vast majority of electricity generated in the world is generated using this model.

So GT hardcore players, two questions:
1) Is Nickel Ore disabled in this pack? Haven't so much as sniffed it. Somehow my quarry found a sheldonite ore, giving me 3 platinum, or I'd be pretty sad right now.
2) Is there a machine that can "package" 9 nuggets into 1 ingot?

1) nickel is enabled but it is extremly rare, but in big veins. Best way on howto get nickel is grinding iron ore. Sheldonite can ocasionaly spawn in overworld granite deposits (same as cinnabar or tungsten)

Yes, Steam Compressor Bronze Age/Early game. Still p&$%$ ugly texture. But works and does the job. It's also a inexpensive recipe for all the things you can do with it. My recommendation is to go with this first and upgrade by-and-by.[DOUBLEPOST=1405598932][/DOUBLEPOST]

Remember this mantra: "this is GT" ;) I inherited some of my grandfather's tools from turn of last century, which look old, but work perfectly well (near infinite durability, huh?). OTOH, the GT iron wrench breaks after 100 uses. Constant loss, and constant grind..... After this realisation, I stopped complaining about GT. I sagely mutter, "this is GT" and move on these days. :D

P.S: Everything in GT is supposed to be configurable. Good luck wading through those configs :D

2) Electric crafting table on nugget package mode.
Thanks sir. I tried that one a couple nights ago and couldn't work my head around it. This time at least I know its possible so I'll give it more effort.

Thanks kindly. I have actually have tons of nickel itself from byproducts, its the platinum I'm interested in (which i believe nickel ore provides as a byproduct)

For nuggets/small piles/tiny piles I always use Adv. Regulator + Alloy Smelter combo. There's a big problem with automating E. Crafting Table - when all input slots are full (and they WILL fill up because this machine is very slow) stuff gets pushed into the output slot, jamming the machine. I prefer my way of doing it, it's more reliable.

About platinum - sheldonite is the easiest way to get it. Just find a portal to the end, and you're swimming in it.

Excellent advice regarding the regulator, thanks kindly. I'll try that out for sure.

@Aiwendil thanks for that tip. Copied into my notes for my next server login session to try out.

Its like I found a long-lost brother :p

I have no notion of how I'll get there. After 3 weeks of this I've encountered exactly 1 enderman, and I believe I needs eyes of ender to get that party started.

^^ Lots of them indeed... Point and fling in a general direction, and if it comes back to you, you are in the right direction - Oh, what the hell... time to watch Paul Soares' videos again

I've given up on those miserly endermen to provide me with their goods now! It's all ender lilies now, courtesy of one rwtema! Slow, but at least I get one pearl for every hit I make :p

... are they in this pack by default? So far I've been playing legitimately by the rules (with some serious nerfing to BR in addition in fact)

I saw a pneumaticcraft video btw highlighting the helmet, and it seemed to make finding the strongholds or dungeons or whatever they're called pretty easy.
iirc you could actually see the silverfish or some such through the ground.

Ooooh! nice to know this. Thanks. :) But alas, it's not on the server I muck about. I've set my eyes on the golden eye item from openblocks, if and when I get the mood to go off to the end some day. It's reusable, and also supposed to be an improvement over the "eye of ender" strategy!
