And no I wasn't referring to the no essence requirement, I was referring to an essence farm.

An essence farm is an xp farm. Exact same thing.

I know I have the option to simply "not use" MFR, but seriously it doesn't add much that wasn't already in FTB.

You're wrong. What's more, you seem intent on being wrong even in the face of having your wrongness being corrected. You are thus, hopeless.

So, what did it add that I'm missing?

Yeah, ok the new Bee effect, and Attack Golems. Either requires more setup than MFR.

I'm not sure what "new Bee effect" you're spouting on about, but this is another example of you stubbornly being wrong. The explorer effect, which is the one that gives xp to players nearby, is a base forestry effect and is not new. Furthermore it's fairly trivial to achieve, even without Extrabees machines (in fact, I have done so multiple times)

I can't say when exactly it was added, because it existed the first time I played with Forestry bees. Which means the very first Mindcrack release.

Ok I guess that one wasn't as new as I thought, but still requires more effort to obtain.

New not in regards to EXP, which is relatively useless anyways.

So you're saying it takes too little effort, but SC2 farms take less effort for higher payout and you're not threadcrashing over them? Confusing.[DOUBLEPOST=1366757020][/DOUBLEPOST]

P.S., some of the best gear in the game is vanilla enchants on vanilla items which require fair sums of XP to obtain. Nevermind Thaumcraft lets you have infinite fortune and silktouch picks (which, btw, enable some of the most profitable automining in our pack) if you can farm the XP and Haste is a great enchant. And gregtech can burn enchanted items for really big sums of power. But otherwise yeah totally XP is useless.

SC2 is being heavily nerfed, that's why I'm not complaining. And the ability to keep re-enchanting is something that takes away from getting that great piece of gear.

You can place milk, sludge, etc in 1.5.1 which is what this thread is about.

Yeah, soul shards isn't updated.

And you have to have 0 input in an essence farm. An exp farm requires you to set up other things and have manual input for the most part (unless you use attack turtles, and I don't want to get started on how much I don't like turtles).

You can use Thaumcraft golems with visors instead of turtles to make the mobs drop XP.

Also, mob essence is easier to set up and use, but it is incredibly expensive in mob essence, power, and time required.

MFR farms take a fair bit of power and only cover a 3x3 area, which is extremely small compared to SC2 or Forestry. Also, they need a lot more power than SC2 or Forestry.

MFR farms can be upgraded in 1.5.1 to cover a larger area. Power isn't that huge an issue as you can scale most power, and people almost always have more power than they can ever use.

I already mentioned golems in a previous post.

the updated ones can be upgraded to a larger area, but at a increased cost (If I remember correctly)

"Meh" ive been using a 'beta pack' of my own for weeks. Its nice and all and the few actual new things are cool, but without RP shit feels watered down.

FYI you need about 810000 mob essence (mB) and power (1 MJ or 2 EU is 5 MFR power) to get a level 30 enchant. Killing a mob with the grinder gets you 100 mB of essence, so you need about 8100 kills for a single level 30 enchantment, plus about 162000 MJ or 405000 EU.

That does it. We're getting you onto RR, dude. Every time I login there I feel like I am relearning minecraft from scratch. And the new MFR rednet stuff is also amazing.

Not having RP2 also gives you opportunities to use obscure automation tools from other mods. The arcane ear, for example, is pretty useful in the absence of cheap wireless redstone. And the new Translocators mod? Wild.

Ah, that's right. I haven't played the new version of MFR.

A 5x5 is still REALLY small compared to any other method of farming plants.

With fertilizer, 3x3 is overkill for farm plants and anything larger than a single square is actually counter productive for trees.
