If you mean cooler the same as practical, then I agree. Teleporters are the only other option I like to use.

Hopefully I'm not confused by you post, but why would you need 50 miners? Miners can easily be upgraded to do 5x5 or 9x9. So 6 miners or ten miners upgraded are much cheaper than 50.

Why not do this with enderchests? Create a Charging system for lapcrystals, utilize tubes or pipes to pull and insert to a mfsu then pull and remove back to the chest to either be charged or decharged.

I guess if your implying on how the scare crow would act yes. I'm thinking persay a 5 x 5 area of tilled ground with a scarecrow would perhaps prevent, or scare mobs coming in that 5x5. The difference here being scarecrows only work for tilled ground and cats work wherever.

Or as the OP said, it would look cooler if the scarecrow scared mobs away. Only when a tilled ground or such was detected.
