Why do you need an iron sword in early game? Make 3-4 stone swords and you're good.

So i got the FTB beta pack with gregtech however my tinkers construct does nothing when i put iron for a tool. It shows off to the right what iron does when using it for say the pick axe head but there is nothing clickable in the box. Any ideas why? Wood and Stone work just fine.

Its large trees like what you see in twlight forest. And we are using 10.0.1 from FTB ultimate. It's probably just randomly thrown in there. Along with the witch houses with no witches I assume. Regardless thank you soooo much for the order of operation. I shall quarry the shit out of this place.
