I don't see how spawners are that handy what am I missing? Maybe a wither skeleton (shard) or blaze spawner but a tree farm will generate more energy than a blaze spawner, and it runs whether you are within 16 blocks or not. IMO shards are the real issue

I'm just starting up biofuel and steam boilers. I don't know the exact number but on the railcraft page they have a calculator for boilers. A 36 hp boiler burns 1 bucket of biofuel in 1 min 41 seconds. A still, I know, will JUST keep up with a max size boiler. So a still is just a bit faster...

MFR farms seem to be fastest, but not very challenging. You can run multiple solid fueled boilers off of one tree farm, not even a full size MFR one, and thats without fertilizer. I dont know why trees on an MFR farm will grow directly next to each other, but if you plant saplings too close...
