You should be fine with monster if you remove mods that you do not like. For example, monster has 2 biome mods so you may only want 1 or none of these. Instead of considering which mods take the most memory just use only the mods you want. It may be easy to add to a smaller pack to make this happen.

If you really wanted to move your base you could use spatial storage pylons to move a very large structure.

Go into the settings and take java of the list or just unplug it. Minecraft will still run just off your CPU, albeit a bit more slowly. Also are you using a texture pack?

It could be your graphics card if you have one. Try disabling that.
