FTB Launcher putting a folder on my desktop

More specifically, the first time you run the launcher, it'll ask you for an install directory. Set it up to anything other than your desktop. If you want to move stuff now, you can change the settings in the launcher, but be aware that you should copy over your saves and whatnot beforehand -...

Types of flowers that bees need?

Humorously, you can also use the bees to replicate other things - lilypads, or vines, say. Heavens knows I need those lilypads to set up my reed farm properly. And there is one notable exception to the flowers thing: the bees don't seem to recognize indigo flowers from RP2, which is a shame...

Max MJ's Per Tick for a Quarry?

Right, about that... If you're using conductive pipes, be aware that they no longer 'lose' excess energy. Instead, that little blue line inside the pipe will get wider and wider until the pipe explodes. Just use a conduit.

Umm...okay, WOW. (BC conductive pipes + Magma Engines)

You might also set up some Magma Crucibles as a fallback energy drain - that is, if you're not running off of lava anyway. TE engines are very smart, and will shut down if they're not needed, but they won't know to do that unless they're linked to conduits. On that note, is there any way to...

Any way to stop Magmatic Engines from overheating?

They do have a 5% power loss, though. Compared with gold pipes, for less than 50 meters, conduits lose more. But then again, they're smarter, and they won't explode if you loop them.

Why should I start with beekeeping?

Anyway, Forestry actually has a config setting for the indigo flowers- well, not just those: Under config/forestry, look for apiculture.conf. There's one setting where you can add block IDs to have them registered as flowers. (Plugins for Forestry also handles this, among other things.)

    Favorite and most hated machines?

Oh hey Saice, glad to hear your underwater base is going fine! On topic: Most favourite: Magma Crucible. I promised myself I wouldn't burn netherrack in it - but even before I entered the Nether, having it turning out lava to centrifuge while I did beekeeping did wonders for my supplies...

Thaumcraft 3 more enjoyable without tech mods?

I can see the attraction in keeping to a coherent 'theme', though - thus the Magic World pack. Of course, if I remember correctly the Magic World has Thermal Expansion, so that might not be quite as 'pure' as you're looking for. The entire pulverizer-induction line makes the TC furnace obsolete...

Why should I start with beekeeping?

Actually, that reminds me: I ended up setting the config for this myself, but do bees pollinate Indigo Flowers in the default configuration? I know Plugins for Forestry sets that up for you, but I'm not sure if that mod's in the Mindcrack pack. In any case, bonemealing grass should yield some...

    Epic Fail stories

I've been doing a lot of TC3 research, but once I got past Unified, I was all "How the hell am I supposed to gather 60 vis in this 50 vis wand of mine? Is it forgotten knowledge?" A few days later, I decide to look at that entry in my Thaumonomicon more closely, and lo and behold, there's a...

Redstone energy cell - best way to charge?

Wait a second. I'm pretty sure wooden conductive pipes can only draw from one engine at a time. Are half of those engines idle?

    Trouble with Quarry startup

The real culprit is obsolete information on some wikis, e.g. http://minecraftbuildcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Energy_Quick_Reference It's a troublesome thing to deal with, for sure. But actually providing the information would have been more helpful in defeating 'ignorance' than hostility, I think.

A question about the Mindcrack Pack.

Additionally, if you want to change how large an area you quarry out, you use landmarks - actually, that was always how you did it. I think you set them up in a rectangle, then right click the landmarks to make the beams turn red...? I've never done it before. Oh, and place the quarry next to...

Redstone energy cell - best way to charge?

Wait, wait, the quarry takes chips now? Whoa... gotta get me some of that! And yes, the quarry can work at up to 50 MJ/t in the more recent (read: non-Beta) versions. (For reference, most people just use MJ recharging directly - it's a lot easier to set up than an ultimate solar array, and...

Please help with redpower "sorting" (LOL YEAH RIGHT) machine

More precisely, I believe there's another block you can stick onto the manager which allows you to access each slot separately. This allows for more fine-grained control.

    Aluminum Ingot

Ah, my apologies, I forgot about doing that. Grr... making tungsten requires 6 advanced casings, which means two batches... and a dab of Iridium. Probably better to make one grinder first, then worry about that... Er, sorry, just talking to myself. As an extra bit of fun, I recently learned...

    Piping question

As for the RP2 option, perhaps a bit more explanation: Pneumatic tubes are ridiculously intelligent - they always route items to the nearest valid destination (where a restriction pipe counts as 5000 meters) and never 'overflow'. Factorization barrels can only handle one item type. While this...

Redstone energy cell - best way to charge?

Also, look into circuit board upgrades - although this isn't documented very well on the wiki, so here goes: Make a soldering iron, then use it - you'll pull up a little interface where you can stick a Forestry Circuit board and some electron tubes. Small boards can only accept one tube...

Forestry is making my brain hurt

Of course, there's also the benefit that you can make a cart track as long as you like - so those five diamonds can stretch a long, long, way. It's slightly nontrivial to interface RP2 and the cargo manager, but do it properly and it's basically a set-and-forget system, like Dread said. (In...

    Gates and Pipe Wire

But for reference, the current difference with higher level gates is that they can handle more conditions, and can be connected to more colors of pipewire. (And can be substituted for higher level circuits in GT, but that's neither here nor there.)
