I don't see any problem with that. Curse launcher isn't all curated and whatnot. It's just a launcher. To be honest I'm not quite sure how you got the idea that it'd be anything but that.

Select 'FTB Official Pack' from the category dropdown. Or search by name. Simple and easy to find what you want. The only difference is that third-party packs are easier to make and no longer require codes to see in the launcher. It could probably use a 'version' filter, though.

Assuming that 'do not show to clients' is a permanent effect and affects both SMP as well as SSP then I would feel that's sufficient. If I misunderstood it was likely due to bad wording, like your frequent statements that you'd never allow permanent disables for the reminder.
