So looking at the current 1.10 FTB packs, most of the mods I use a lot are there or there's analogues for them (like BigReactors now basically being ExtremeReactors or something) There's a few glaring omissions though. I mean Buildcraft and Thaumcraft. That's a big content hit right there...

So, using Aroma's mining world. Currently running 5 max size BC quarries. This is not an issue. The 9x9 max size quarry holes (read 1296 chunks) I just tried to worldedit all the water out of in a fit of laziness...this might be the issue. My memory usage keeps hopping up to 99% and freezing...

Do you turn the lighting off? If you go out at night you can easily see nodes because they are light sources :)

Sometimes I wait until I can make steel (not so much for obsidian, more so I can gather cobalt and ardite). This normally means waiting until I can build and power an induction smelter, but yeah sometimes I gamble on being able to find Nether Pig Iron conveniently close to me portal.

Does the pack have bees? If so, draconic bees make things you can turn into dragon eggs :)

Yeah that's the thing, the wildlife that gets added to the nether can be very nasty in the early game. Also Pigmen craziness with Nether Ores in the pack.

Question as title. Do you wait to get diamond or steel tools and some half-decent armour, or do you start work on your portal as soon as you can scrape together a bit of iron for two buckets?

I've not played these newfangled later versions, but in 1.7.10 Bound Armour is sexy. Draconic Armour gives nice abilities but it looks like a weird leopardskin gimp suit, so I tend to go with Bound Armour and the extra utilities angel ring thingy for flight.

So far as I can see, there's no external way to change the mode of the metal former. Redstone signals won't do it, so you can't just piss about with a level emitter or W/E. Unless computercraft has a sneaky way of doing it (I don't really know much CC so someone else will have to...

My medium sized passive reactor outputs 25k RF/t. That 10 million RF buffer fills up in around 20s :)

Nothing beyond the small internal buffer the reactor has. It would actually be quite a nice engineering project to use no energy storage system whatsoever and just toggle the reactor on/off, balancing it solely on the reactor's internal storage :)
