    Try Regrowth. It might slide in under the limit. The other option, is Automaton which is a 1.12 mod pack but is surprisingly small in size.

    I believe the purpose of Thorium is in RTG generators, but I don't remember if those have been implemented in GT.

    I saw the one he did sorting mobs by preferences, it was actually pretty funny. Don't remember if it was him or someone else that set up a sorter to get creepers shot by skeletons for records.

    Not an FTB pack, but GrimCo's Wasted includes Tech Guns so you can run around blasting at each other with various fancy firearms.

    I'm at the point where I either build my own packs, or use trimmed down ones. I might throw in a Kitchen Sink pack, but then I go at it with pruning shears before I play it.

    I'd say Thermal Suite and Forestry are two better contenders for second to learn. Thermal has a big team behind it and Forestry's got a team and devs who've been doing this long enough that they're almost always among the first to hit release.

    I'd have a 1.7.10 series going, but filling 27 minecarts with track takes quite a while and lags like a mofo using Logistics Pipes.

    I would like to suggest Automaton, it's not quite vanilla, but has lightly changed recipes, and a nice quest book.

    Though depending on the installed mods, it might make you flammable which makes fire extra dangerous. And also use lava to ignite the oil.
