    FTB - Curse Update

Actually for #4 things like no ads, no throttled downloads and the other feature changes we're doing will be carried back to all games. :)

    FTB - Curse Update

That system and workflow is still being spec'd out. I'm going to be working with @Jadedcat and @Eyamaz to figure that out. Once we have more details we'll be posting them. I do know that some of our goals include smaller downloads for updates, and improved experience for both end users and...

    FTB - Curse Update

I'm working on getting more analytics. Unfortunately polls like that don't really work well on the internet because you're getting answers from a sampling of people who are willing to take the time to fill out the survey. There's an inherent selection bias. Can it do my dishes and yard work...

    Sorry what?

    FTB - Curse Update

I would expect it to transfer at the speed of light. Unfortunately it'll take approximately 8 minutes to transfer, and you only cover ~ 50% of the planet.... :(

    FTB - Curse Update

My implied point, and my mistake for not being more clear, is that there is/will be a common platform for the projects on our side. Even though one is at dev.bukkit.org and the other is at ftb.curseforge.com or minecraft.cureforge.com they're running on the same code and database. For those...

    FTB - Curse Update

Completely coincidental. We don't have access to the web servers or even the forum control panel. I've actually toyed around with the idea of proving an apt-repo. But as mentioned, we're still a long way from hammering out all the details. :)

    FTB - Curse Update

I'll share API details when I have them. :) And no Curse isn't buying Forge. Just as they didn't buy the Ace Project for WoW from me when they hired me or bought my website. We currently have a server API for bukkit plugins. Servers will be addressed in our plans as we work out the details...

    FTB - Curse Update

We won't have ads in the client, but there may be sponsorships much like the existing FTB Launcher has for CreeperHost and GameVox.

    FTB - Curse Update

There are various reasons why the concurrency was limited, on mac for example it's actually a technical limitation with the Cocoa APIs for file downloads. What I expect you'll find is that with our new infrastructure we will have and a lack of download speed is that you'll be able to max out...

Your sympathies are greatly appreciated, and we're not ruling out anything at this point.

Unfortunately Mono doesn't support WPF, if it did a lot of this would a non issue.

    FTB - Curse Update

Nope, as current plans stand the forums will be part of the project site, and the project site will be ad free.

    FTB - Curse Update

By default the client will run in the background, but once the game is launched I don't think you'll be forced to have it running. Realistically I don't think you'd even have to go through it except to do updates if you didn't want to.

    FTB - Curse Update

The contents and building of the mod packs will stay 100% in the hands of the FTB team.

    FTB - Curse Update

It's no small matter for us to switch development to Qt or similar, and I realistically don't think that'll happen despite the fact that Qt looks to have been greatly improved since we last investigated it. I think it's also safe to say that the Curse Client will never be open sourced. On the...

    FTB - Curse Update

I appreciate the appreciation :) I'm not going to BS you guys or lie to anyone. I think we have the best hope of doing things right by working together as a community. I'd rather give the realties now than lead people on. What I can say is that I want to find a way to support linux users...

    FTB - Curse Update

I'm just not being fake with you guys. I know that right now I can't commit to doing a native linux client, so I'm telling you that. I'm actually very interested trying to make a case to support Linux, but right now I know I don't have enough ammo to make it. Help me get it. :)

    FTB - Curse Update

My illustration was just showing that technology choices can be more than cosmetic. Comparing any desktop application to googles infrastructure (which has spawned revolutions in datacenter design, data storage, and parallel processing) is such a huge troll...

    FTB - Curse Update

I think you nailed it on that. The differences can be more than just skin deep too. Using native technologies with the v6 Client that CurseVoice is built into we've managed to get cpu usage down to 0-3% on average, even with half a dozen people in a call session. Compare that to say...
