    1.8 "The Bountiful Update" Released

Of course. I did disclaim that I am testing on a high-end machine and that my numbers aren't representative of everyone else's. The point was not to be representative, but rather to compare performance of all three Minecraft versions in the exact same scenario on the exact same map on the exact...

    1.8 "The Bountiful Update" Released

That question is probably better asked in the server area of the official Minecraft forums.

    1.8 "The Bountiful Update" Released

Okay, so just as @Bigpak mentioned, there was a lot of crap thrown around recently. Many many people making claims about 1.8, but not a single one actually produced a standardized test to back up their claims. And you know what happens when Omicron is dissatisfied with a lack of data? He gathers...

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Thanks for the info! Shaft power directly is not an option, since the main purpose is to drive Forestry machines; the ME Controller would just leech a little off of that line, in either MJ or RF. Since it can take MJ, I am going to go with that, for the eye candy. Cheers!

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Can AE in 1.6.4 take Buildcraft MJ directly, or would it need to be RF? I'm coming from RoC shaft power and have the option to convert into either; the end result would be completely identical, I just personally prefer the shiny blue power lines in Buildcraft's kinesis pipes over the static...

    Understood, and thanks :)

Mod Feedback [By Request] RotaryCraft Suggestions

Some more suggestions: - The microturbine could use a buff. Its placement at 2 MW power is fine, but its fuel usage is too high. First, it has an extremely long spinup time; I haven't actually measured it, but it might be as long, if not longer than the 67 MW gas turbine. In reality it's more...

    Automated Steam Boiler (Solid Fuel)

^This. In fact, even better: Railcraft boilers have custom gate conditionals for fuel status. You can do something like "Fuel <25% --> Red Pipe Signal". And if you don't have an autarchic gate on the other end, you can simply power an adjacent redstone engine with a "Red Pipe Signal -->...

Is Rotarycraft stupidly difficult or am I the stupid one?

You know, while I know exactly what's going on here (firing a blank during a fullspeed jump for a public show), I can't help but always look at these still frames as if it was some sort of cartoon and the tank was comically being launched backwards from the recoil of its own cannon :D

Internal Exception: java.net.socketexception: java.net.SocketException: Connection Reset

I recently had a slew of "socket closed" errors when running a server on Java 8.05 with the +UseConcMarkSweepGC argument set, which has been in use in many FTB default configs since forever. You've no idea what I went through to narrow it down to that. Looks completely unrelated but isn't. If...

    Consuming Power

Being fairly horizontal isn't that bad in principle. Minecraft itself is fairly horizontal, so that fits in overall makeup.

    Consuming Power

I haven't really perceived Rotarycraft as a particularly power-hungry mod, and I'm using it right now. I mean, you can always speed up machines with more shaft speed, but there comes a point where a machine is simply "fast enough" for practical purposes. And for most machines, this comes sooner...

Mod Feedback [By Request] RotaryCraft Suggestions

I urge you to not fall into the trap of pure cost based progression balancing. I know it's the first thought that comes to mind since we deal with resource costs all day long when playing with tech mods, but in practical application, in a world where all resources are infinite, that's never...

    Consuming Power

Buildcraft has been RF compatible for as long as RF has existed, though... because TE conduits (and probably other mod's cables as well) autoconvert RF to MJ. So now that the builder is back in 1.7.x, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from using a portable energy cell and one piece of...

Is Rotarycraft stupidly difficult or am I the stupid one?

Regardless of that opinion on the conversion factor, these are the laws we play by, and comparisons between machines are emergent from these laws. A Buildcraft combustion engine will drive a RoC borer far faster than a Buildcraft quarry, and a RoC gasoline engine won't even make a Buildcraft...

Is Rotarycraft stupidly difficult or am I the stupid one?

Keep in mind that a gasoline outputs an effective 1.1 MJ/t. A Buildcraft quarry wouldn't even deign to move its arm for that amount, much less dig a block. So yeah, the Rotarycraft borer is a very cheap and efficient autominer, even without any enchantments.

    Consuming Power

Well, in real life, we have five main purposes of power: lighting, transportation, computation, processing and mechanical work. Due to the limitations of Minecraft's engine, applications of the first and last are few in number - your character can move and carry an arbitrary amount of mass, and...

    Member status?

The actual "General FTB Chat" forum in the "Feed The Beast" section, or the "General Discussion" forum in the "Chat" subsection of the "General" section? Slight but important difference :P I'm not sure it would make sense to exempt General FTB Chat, since we do talk on topic here (occasional...

    Consuming Power

I think what Golrith wanted to address isn't so much about endgame; rather, it's about mods releasing powerful power generation options but no consumers that need that amount of power. People often say that with Minecraft, the journey is the reward, not the destination. In other words, it's not...
